strongly recommend you to stay longer than requirement. If you presence days are just qualify then it increases the risk of being second reviewed which would last from a couple months to 2 years.

you mean pr card or pr status? if you can meet the residency obligation then it's fine(730 days out of 5 years), you can sponsor your wife at anytime. The status won't expire . if that is not your case then yes,you need to be qualified as a sponsor first.
