I contacted my MP today to inquire about the status of my application and will probably hear from them tomorrow. I was told though that we are not even close to the one year mark and that immigration takes more than one year in most cases. :(

But in the AOR is says, after 3 months you are required to ask about the status of your application... so why would they write that if they don't answer anyways? So far they always answered my emails, guess I was lucky.

Unfortunately, this was not the case for me. You don't automatically get a 12 months extension. I changed my status from working to visitor and got 6 months (married but no application sent at this point), and then when I extended it I got another 6 months (married and application sent at this...

This is really getting annoying.. why do they take so long to reply to an email? I sent them an email last Thursday to inquire about my status but no answer yet. I will contact my MP next week so that they can try to find out what's going on.

Waikiki, do you know what is included in those background/security checks? And why it might take so long?
