If your girlfriend was considered a common-law partner before you applied and you failed to mention her on your application it could also be refused. As others have said, you must reside in Canada when sponsoring. Your wish to be primarily overseas is highly unlikely.

I believe sponsors who are not Canadian citizens must reside in Canada while sponsoring their spouse. I could be wrong however.
