Bill C-24 Second Reading on February 27th:

I've lived here 6 years and am now a PR. I ALREADY HAVE inherited the same problems. I pay taxes towards all of these people just like you do. Understanding there's a problem that should be fixed is one thing, and I agree there are problems. The PR Residency Obligation for me is one of the...

Bill C-24 Second Reading on February 27th:

In essence, "if you don't like it, you can go home". Oh trust me, I've heard all those arguments before. I think anyone (immigrant or not) would consider the place they have lived continuously for the past 6 years to be their "home", so for me Canada is home. But I digress. There's also a...

Bill C-24 Second Reading on February 27th:

I have issues with the residency portion too (I agree it should be longer overall but time before PR should still count), but this "intent to reside" business is sheer lunacy. If and when I qualify for Canadian citizenship, I expect the same responsibilities but also the same rights and freedoms...

How do you Americans like Canada? :P

Some of us just like the taste of citrus I guess :P

How do you Americans like Canada? :P

Just wanted to point out that this WAS true but is no longer. Canada now sells Mountain Dew "Citrus Charge" and it contains caffeine. I assume the "Citrus Charge" was to differentiate it from the original, but you can no longer get the original. There is caffeine-free Citrus Charge but it is...

I would think the AOR is not enough for OHIP. You must prove, through 3 separate documents: 1. Proof of Canadian citizenship or ongoing legal immigration status 2. Proof of Ontario residency and address 3. Proof of Photo Identity The AOR does not prove any ongoing status, just that CIC...

Missing UCI Number in the Application

I highly doubt it will be returned. CIC will simply verify your UCI from your work permit copy.

After landing to open up a bank account?

Right, but once you arrive here it's quite easy to open an account.

Disclosure of disability on Schedule A ' Background/Declaration form'

No good can come from not mentioning the disease or illness. So long as it is not something terminal or contagious to other people they are probably not concerned, and even if they are, that's what the medical process is for.

After landing to open up a bank account?

OP already mentioned it would be a wire transfer, which is quite easy to achieve in Canada in the branch of the receiving bank. All you really need are the details of the account in the sending bank. I've done this a few times myself as a temporary resident to get my Australian dollars over to...

Your OHIP should expire the same day as your temporary status in Canada does. If you are in a situation where your temporary status will expire before your landing (never mind PPR which could take up to 2 weeks further to complete), you should apply for a BOWP which you are entitled to so long...

After landing to open up a bank account?

On the SIN front, they can issue a temporary one based on your passport and work permit.

Any one experienced landing at Sault Ste Marie Office

You cannot choose a CIC office in which to land. CIC will assign an appointment to you at the closest office to your address. EDIT: Perhaps you mean the Sault Ste Marie land border? It's not really an office, per se.

Send out the application for a new PR card from outside Canada

Second this. I would prepare everything now, but the actual sending of the application needs to wait until you are in Canada.

Can Provincial nominee work as contractor for another country company

If you're already a PR, and you have the option of going to the US or working within Canada for this company, obviously the better choice will be to work within Canada (from a PR standpoint). If you're travelling only within Canada, there will be no effect on your PR status.

    PR Card Renewal Delay

This is incorrect. Your PR status is "Permanent". You can never lose it simply because the card you have expires. You lose PR status only if CIC/CBSA has reason to investigate your actions and finds you in breach. Most often this is when you don't meet the RO and present at the border.

Waiting for PR Card after landing - add your case here

Much like the processing of the PR itself, ECAS seems to update only AFTER someone has touched the file. I would imagine there are a bunch of new PRs in queue for assessment right now and all of those are not likely to show anything.

    OHIP after landing

You're right, I assumed the OP was living in Ontario the whole time. If that's not the case, disregard my post.
