The sponsorship process is to get permanent residence in Canada. Permanent residence gives you the full right to live and work in Canada, so you don't need a work permit once that's happened.

Yep, your first sentence is correct. You cannot apply for an open work permit if you are doing outland sponsorship. If you are doing inland sponsorship, you can apply for the open work permit at the same time you submit your sponsorship application.

And to add to what angelyohann said, there's a link to ECAS on the first page of this thread, as well as to GCKey, which is where you can track your application once you have been given an application number! Still a while for us March applicants to hear anything from any of those places though...

In the UK, you can just request a certified true copy of your birth certificate (which is what husband did). We got married in Ontario, and again you can request a certified true copy of the certificate. They're something you have to get from a government agency, but there's usually an easy way...

My advice is to just go through the checklist, above each section it makes it clear under which circumstances an original is needed (usually a country-specific requirement). We sent certified copies of birth and marriage certificate, and then everything else was photocopies (passports, etc)...

I sent it on Friday, March 8th. I had a couple of versions of the checklist saved, and I think I used the June 2018 one. My bad. If we have to update and re-send, it's not the end of the world. But definitely disheartening.
