No. there is absolutely no way around that without an existing driver's license from your home country. Just pass the test for learner's permit, wait a year and get new driver one (in BC).

Can you get car insurance with international driver licence???

Absolutely yes. There should be no problem with getting a vehicle insurance. However, as a temporary worker, I assume that you will need to get a Canadian driver's license after a certain time (for some countries international driving permit is valid for 3-6 months while abroad).

Insurance plans for visitors that include possible future pregnancy?

Unfortunately, you are not going to be covered for delivery and pre-natal care since you are already pregnant and getting a private insurance will not solve the problem. Also, as you have mentioned, you just came to Canada, which, I assume, means that you are not yet eligible for OHIP either.

Applying for US visa as a PGWP holder (graduated from UBC in June, 2014)

    1. It should not be a problem re-entering Canada having a valid visa, just explain your particular case to the POE officer in case he/she got questions. 2. As for US visa, there could be a problem in case you do not provide them with a significant reason why you will go back to Canada. Being a...

I don't think you did a wrong choice. Like you said it's better be safe than sorry, especially when something happens and you need to see a doctor. 150k will certainly be enough to cover you for the whole duration of your stay you can get a refund in case you leave Canada before the insurance...
