How to get a local Canadian phone number to apply for jobs from outside Canada? (Already have a PR)

It requires a bit of configuration, but you can do it on voip.ms for about a dollar a month. You can forward the number to another number. But the minimum amount of credit to add is US$25.

CBSA refusals to validate PR at Land Border crossings in Niagara (and maybe more areas)

"Outsmarted"? There was zero deception. "Game the system" by following instructions and coming with all required paperwork? "Get over it"? This isn't over. If federal public servants fail to provide public service, that's a problem that we should all hold them accountable for.

CBSA refusals to validate PR at Land Border crossings in Niagara (and maybe more areas)

Looking more into this, there's an "Important Notice" floating around that CBSA is going to reject flagpolers at two popular Montreal-area crossings for study/work permits (not PRs!). Unlike the previous "Fact Sheet", it actually defines flagpoling as So, it seems like Queenston-Lewiston...

Landing in Niagara Region by rail on Amtrak Maple Leaf?

Where did I discount the work of others? The more I read into the laws and regs, the more questions it raises than answers. Did the Minister implement this program? How could one get copies of these program instructions? I guess IRCC has some kind of agreement for CBSA to perform the...

Landing in Niagara Region by rail on Amtrak Maple Leaf?

In a communication with a CBSA mid-level official, flagpoler still wasn't precisely defined, but they seemed to take a very broad definition of it. Overnight was still considered flagpoling despite claims that the primary intent of a US trip was shopping (and lots of shopping proof!). Broader...

CBSA refusals to validate PR at Land Border crossings in Niagara (and maybe more areas)

I've emailed every councillor and mayor in the impacted regions warning them about the loss of tourism business from CBSA's decision. If CBSA is "inundated" with people entering at Ports of Entry, CBSA should invest in more people and infrastructure, not cut services.

Landing in Niagara Region by rail on Amtrak Maple Leaf?

I did do the easiest thing: I followed CIC's written advice that any Point of Entry could process us. Easily drive an extra 5 hours? Without any guarantee that CBSA won't make up some other self-serving policy? Just this weekend, there was a 75 car pileup in Buffalo with at least 1 dead on the...

Landing in Niagara Region by rail on Amtrak Maple Leaf?

No, they cannot. But CBSA has no oversight, so they feel like they can make up any policy they want. S. 71.1 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations states:

Landing in Niagara Region by rail on Amtrak Maple Leaf?

Flagpoler is an undefined term. So who is a flagpoler? We were in the USA for 24 hours, but still rejected. CBSA has zero discretion to process PR applicants, S. 71.1 of the IRPR is clear that new PRs can be processed at any point of entry. If CBSA doesn't like it, they can ask for the law to...

Landing in Niagara Region by rail on Amtrak Maple Leaf?

Law is implemented though policy. Policy must be in congruence with law. I believe CBSA is in the wrong here. And their aggressive actions are a disservice to new and existing Canadians. I've created a new thread about our rejection experiences here...

CBSA refusals to validate PR at Land Border crossings in Niagara (and maybe more areas)

Background: CBSA seems to be upset that they have been offering rapid and timely service for PRs. They have created an unpublished and secretive "flagpole" policy because they think they're too busy providing this service. It can be found here...

    Rainbow Bridge PR Landing FAILED

I've created a new thread about CBSA's questionable actions here: https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/cbsa-refusals-to-validate-pr-at-land-border-crossings-in-niagara-and-maybe-more-areas.536003/ This was on December 31st, not the stat holiday. At Ports of...

    Rainbow Bridge PR Landing FAILED

Rumour is CBSA may deny PR/work permit/study permit landing services at more crossings. The next to get axed might be StBernard-de-Lacolle and St-Armand/Philipsburg, Quebec. http://www.cba.org/CMSPages/GetFile.aspx?guid=a952f4e6-bb15-40a8-8b10-72a7f5303da9 I don't believe this is legal.

Landing in Niagara Region by rail on Amtrak Maple Leaf?

Has anyone done this? With CBSA unilaterally deciding to refuse applications 4 days per week at the 3 Niagara highway crossings, is landing by rail possible?

ATIP request filed. I'll keep this post updated with any responses.

    Rainbow Bridge PR Landing FAILED

Just got refused at Queenston-Lewiston Bridge today. Got handed an undated and unsigned "Fact Sheet" about flagpoling. I've yet to find a definition of "flagpoling". Is a 24 hour shopping trip flagpoling or not? Not sure how a policy is a fact sheet, but the CBSA feels like they can make up...

    OB570 Stream.

Our letter doesn't suggest any option but to send it to the overseas VO. Which works out okay for us, we're going this week.

You sure on that? Some of us are OB570, but still sending our passport copies and photos to overseas embassies.

OUTLAND approved sponsorship then STUCK in Mississauga ... GATHER HERE ...

It's hard to say. Nothing in OB570 mentions about going back to CPC-M. They play around with applications' locations all the time to "even-the-load".
