Because a person with so low Hb cannot even perform his daily/routine duties... and if you think your spouse is normal/active please you must recheck it

You should not delay your medical appointment as the time is limited and Hb will not rise in 1-2 weeks 7.8 is below normal, please recheck it from another good lab... and may I ask you why it's so low ....
