as per my knowledge, it's of moderate importance. although it was listed on my checklist provided to me by my counselor i didn't include one with my application file, it all depends on what your parents profession is really, i think. i've seen people getting approvals without providing income...

the standard pre-requirement for ielts to get a Canadian SP is to get at least 6 in each module afaik. that could potentially be the reason for the refusal, besides people discuss about their visa status when there's a problem, people with approvals are less likely to be here. survivorship bias.
