well McDutch's medicals expired in December, ours in January, so if we follow that logic we should be getting the request soon as well. Hopefully at least, just so that we get things moving.

Europe, believe me I know, I expected to have our papers in July or August. But after all the long-distance stuff we had to put up with, the phone calls, flights, lack of vacation, money etc we are among the 3% of long distance relationships that made it work. This is the last hurdle and I am...

I think this is just what we need, some optimism on this forum. It is a long and frustrating process but we will all get there eventually. And we do need to stay positive and distract ourselves as much as possible. This is the last stretch before we can resume our normal lives! Good luck to you...

considering our medicals just expired and by the time they request new one and the whole process runs its course, my new target date is summer 2013! ;)

this is the page which explains the change in procedure for requesting new medicals.. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2012/ob423.asp basically to avoid a re-medical, the medical cannot be older than 15 months and even then it's at the discretion of a medical...

yep, that's what I'm afraid of as well but there's nothing we can do but wait it out. I'm going to request the notes to see where they're at. It's going to be a $5 well spent. Just not sure if I should request the electronic or physical file. Does anyone have experience with this?

nope. the only thing i'm expecting from them at this point is a request for a re-medical. :|

I haven't seen any correlation to date between nationality and length of background checks, other than it seems to be faster for women. My husband is german and we've been in background checks since September. The wait is most likely due to their processing load at CSIS or wherever they're doing...

waikiki, did you wait for them to request a new medical or did you just did you email them after your old medical elapsed?

it is frustrating messener, however, the money argument is mute in this category (family sponsorship) at least. As a sponsor it is just one of the obligations that we have, so paying a few hundred bucks for the exam sucks but it's not the biggest of my worries. I am more worried with the...

thanks Europe! I won't redo it unless they ask me. I've read somewhere that it's a different form so if I don't hear anything by end of this month I might email them again to ask but I will definitely not initiate the medical on my own. I know they changed the way they handle medical re-exams in...

    VIENNA OFFICE

I read somewhere that they can do that (they changed the rules as of last year) but it all depends on how close you application is to being granted. They could also ask you to just do part of the medical. We are in the same boat, our medicals expire next week, we'll probably have to redo...

we've been waiting this long, we can't give up now. Soon enough this too will be behind us. At least you've got some good news, hopefully it will be over in a few days. For us it's still "in process" and no news/updates :(

    VIENNA OFFICE

Vienna office is open today, however, I think the system updates overnight so you wouldn't see any changes today since yesterday was a holiday. it will come, we have to distract ourselves with other things, because obsessing over why it's taking so long just makes it that much harder. it's been...

    VIENNA OFFICE

I wouldn't count on anything happening between Christmas and New Years, I bet most people took time off to merge the two holidays. If you haven't heard anything (like us) keep hoping for good news in January! For ones that got their PR recently, congrats and all the best !! :)

    VIENNA OFFICE

who knows, my guess is that there might be a higher number of cases where "exempt" applicants have lived in multiple countries ...which in turn makes the background check longer..women also seem to be getting their PR faster than men...but this whole thing seems to be so random that I have given...

    VIENNA OFFICE

I have a feeling that's what's slowing us down as well. My husband spent his whole life in Germany, with the exception of one year in Canada when we were dating..so probably they have to do background checks for both countries. I just hope it doesn't take 2 years because that would drive us...
