Venecan, we got a similar answer. when did your status change to "in process" on e-cas? And out of curiosity, has your spouse lived in different countries before submitting the sponsorship application? I'm trying to understand why our backround checks are taking so long.

    VIENNA OFFICE

I think that means that they are doing them already. If your application is "in process" on e-cas, they have most likely started the background checks around that date, if not before.

    VIENNA OFFICE

Yah, I know they can't speed things up. I suspect that they are waiting on background checks from other federal agencies that's why it's taking so long. It'd just be nice to have a more precise timeline than "it can take a few weeks or a few months or..." but honestly there's nothing much we can...

Good luck Venecan, let us know how it goes. I contacted them twice as well but we only got generic answers both times and was politely told that my future inquiries might not be answered. Let me know if you hear anything from the MP, I haven't contacted mine yet, I figure I'd give them till...

I wish ;) But don't despair, the newer applicants seem to have a lot more luck than those of us who applied in spring...for some mysterious reason...

I guess it depends from one person to another, your personal/military/travel history. We've been in background checks for a good 6 weeks, I contacted them again recently and they just replied saying that background checks take "a few weeks or longer". So our wait continues. Hopefully for you it...

Thanks Nole! I hope we all get to take a break from this forum soon enough :)

I'd email them to ask if you can. I would also go in person if I were you. I believe that they will answer quickly since it's not another one of our generic status updates ;)

    VIENNA OFFICE

I honestly have no idea why. If at least we would be able to know where they're at or when to expect the decision, it would be easier to live with them putting our lives on hold. My husband emailed them in October (first time since AOR) and I emailed them again in November. I don't really expect...

They will reply pretty fast, if you haven't contacted them at all since your AOR. They did for us anyways (after 2-3 days I believe), but we got the generic response of "we are doing background checks". That was over a month ago, and we haven't heard anything back since.

Dutchcookies, no, we did not. I totally understand your frustration, we are becoming one of the oldest cases now and it blows my mind that some people get their visa in 70-80 days while we've been waiting for more than 250 days now. I thought our case is really straightforward as we've been...

congrats Nole and everyone else who got updates today! Good to hear that things are moving along. I hope we hear something soon too.

not necessarily, request for new medical just means that your medical has either expired or is about to. They cannot issue a visa without a valid medical since the date of the expiration of the visa is the same date as when your medical exam expires (i.e. one year from the exam). So if they are...

it depends, we got our "in process" two months after the AOR but that was during the summer when things were slow. Some people saw their status change very fast after the AOR (a matter of few days) and others went straight from application received to PPR/decision made. It seems to be on a case...

Berlin, Europe Spouse Sponsorship Timeline 2011

We just sent ours in on March 8th. I'm hoping that we'll fall among the "straightforward cases" but than again you never know :/ I'm interested in keeping in touch with the ones who applied around the same time as us, it will give us a better idea of how things are progressing! San
