Proof of common law relationship status

You need evidence of cohabitation for a period of at least one year (or is it three?). Having a child in common does not necessarily establish a common law relationship, although it may be one thing to be taken into consideration among others.

Father is being detained and we're being deported!

I agree with you. Unfortunately, the victim's family does not see it that way and have been criticizing CIC for letting the guy in. I am actually surprised that the news story seems to have mostly died out now. That probably wouldn't have happened in the US, where it would have been on Lou Dobbs...

    Vechicle cleared at us border

So you didn't have to take the car back into the US first?

Father is being detained and we're being deported!

The Canadian immigration system is going to take some hits over the recent court decision that declared the guy (an immigrant) who beheaded someone on the Greyhound bus in Manitoba last summer not criminally responsible. The family of the victim is raising questions about the immigration system...

    CSQ in federal application? HELP!!!

Once you land in Canada, you have freedom of movement and can move to Montreal if you want. You just can't land there unless you have a CSQ. Now that CIC knows you intend to live there, it may make processing your application difficult w/o a CSQ.

Which bank from USA will work for FEE

Just make sure the bank you choose isn't going to go belly-up before CIC cashes the check!

Few Questions on First-Entry to Canada

You absolutely have to show proof of funds in the amount required fro the number of people included in your application. If it is $18,000--you need to show proof of that amount when you land.

older US citizens moving to canada

Good point. The health insurance can get pretty tricky. I wonder if there are any private Canadian plans to cover you while visiting in Canada that may be cheaper than US plans? If nothing else you could take advantage of the exchange rate until the US dollar crashes. I am just thinking out loud...

Will Overstaying in the US effect my application?

How do you intend to ship all your furniture to Canada if you just have a tourist visa? You will have some explaining to do to CBSA.

Few Questions on First-Entry to Canada

If you have a Canadian permanent resident visa, yes, you can make a short visit and return later to move permanently. Yes, you need to show proof of funds when you land. An ATM receipt from a US bank should do it. I don't think a bank in Singapore will work. I think the CBSA officer is supposed...

Green card holder of US applying college in Canada

Do you want to keep your green card status in the US? Its definitely cheaper to get your Ph.D. in Canada then the states, but a Ph. D. program can take up to 10 years to complete. You may lose your status in the US, unless you commute across the border.

Help on maintaining family in canada and working outside

What I want to know is how a commuter marriage based on two weeks together a year is going to work? Not my business, I guess, but definitely not an option I enjoy!

Info-sharing on entry-exit tracking between Canada and the US (implemented?)

US CBP keeps record of all entries up to 15 years, even entries of US citizens. What type of records they keep exactly is not a matter of public record. There was a minor controversy about that in the US papers last year.

You can apply for medical right away, but you may not be covered until after the waiting period has been expired.

    settlement money issue

CIC could ask for proof of funds for everyone included on your application at any time in the process and you must show proof of funds when landing. This is one of the reasons it is so difficult to successfully immigrate to Canada. If you are really broke, you could try taking out a loan and...

    Vechicle cleared at us border

Call the CBSA line and find out if it is even necessary to have the title stamped by US Customs to get the car legally imported into Canada. When I registered my US car in Canada, they didn't even take the old US title, they just went off the paperwork issued by CBSA. If CBSA will issue the...
