Falling in love (and marrying and sponsoring) in Cuba

Thanks for checking it out and yeah, that orange shirt is WEIRD! Cuba really is an amazing place. I'm irritated it at the moment because it's holding my husband hostage...but will come to appreciate it again for sure!

Although to be honest we didn't take the visa that day, he only had a month and a half left on his medical so we opted to get a new medical and come back for the visa when the medical results came back March 22. If his medical had expired after he had the visa, we would have had to start over...

Yeah, I think it happens quite often, interview in the morning, visa in the afternoon.

No problem. Happy to help. I assumed the baja applied to everyone with a job...but I could be wrong. Definitely his immigration office will be able to tell him and it's not too early. For the marriage certificate he just goes to the lawyer that married you and asks for a new one. That takes a...

Yep! It's the baja, maybe you've heard about it as that? When he goes to get his PRE (or PVE) he'll need his baja, a marriage certificate no more than 90 days old...and hmmm, not sure what else. My husband is dealing with all that since it's his side, not mine. I know they need to show they did...

They vary in speed and irritating complications from job to job. His is to do with being a sports professional...not about his job at a resort. And it's also to do with when he graduated from university...4 years ago. Apparently if it had been 5 years or more it wouldn't have been a hassle. Your...

Falling in love (and marrying and sponsoring) in Cuba

Wow, yeah, from what I know (which is basically just TV and Hollywood movies) being an undocumented Mexican in the US is not easy at all!! So did you get married there and are now sponsoring him to Canada? Does that mean you have to be in Canada while he waits in the States or can he come and...

    relationship evidence....future plans??

In my essay I talked about our general vision of our future but nothing specific. In his interview they asked him a lot about what he wants to do in Canada, his expectations of life here, how he sees us building our future. I think that was partly to ensure he had realistic expectations and...

Hi all, Just joining up on this thread since I'm also bringing my Cuban husband over to Canada. He got his Canadian visa in February but we've been waiting on his liberation letter since then. He could have quit his job and got it earlier...but he didn't want to be sitting around doing nothing...

Falling in love (and marrying and sponsoring) in Cuba

It is crazy! He loves his country but this process is making him recognize his lack of rights and freedoms which is pretty depressing for him. He understood theoretically before...but now he actually understands he's not free. The whole process basically feels as childish and patronizing as...

Awesome! Here's the post that will take me to the next level of membership!!!! That's probably a good plan about heading home first...but I bet you'll be kicking yourself after about a month missing him so much. Awwww! Don't worry, you'll make it!!! The only work I know available for...

Falling in love (and marrying and sponsoring) in Cuba

Oh and if someone could pleeeease take pity on my newbiness and help me figure out how to put all my stats under my profile name, that would be awesome! Unless because I'm new I don't have that privilege yet. I'm jealous of all your cool stats and avatars and animated immigration timeline icons!

Falling in love (and marrying and sponsoring) in Cuba

That's great to hear. I will definitely stick around and explore. Lots and lots of stuff to look at it seems! And ironic that I discover this forum just as my immigration experience is almost over. But then again, maybe I will be able to help other people navigate these treacherous waters haha!

Falling in love (and marrying and sponsoring) in Cuba

Since it's nearly impossible to get out of Cuba except through being sponsored out by a spouse there is A LOT of marriage fraud. Most people assume you're being conned.

Falling in love (and marrying and sponsoring) in Cuba

Yes, it's nearly impossible to live in Cuba as a foreigner. Well unless you have a bunch of money and don't need to work...but even then, it would be hard. We looked at moving to Ecuador or Singapore...countries where Cubans don't need a visa. But that seemed like a pretty big adjustment for...

Falling in love (and marrying and sponsoring) in Cuba

I think it's probably almost exactly the same in public judgment about your relationship, your motivations, your spouse's motivations...lots of scams and fraud coming from Cuba and the Dominican but then again real love as well! Maybe the only difference between the two being all the nonsense...

That is the link! And you're right, I couldn't post it because it was my first post. Glad that you guys liked it. I'm trying to do a post per day so knowing people like it definitely inspires me. I think it's quite an easy experience for everyone here to relate to no matter what country they're...

Falling in love (and marrying and sponsoring) in Cuba

Hi all, After 2 and a half years together, my Cuban husband is mere weeks away from arriving in Canada. I decided a nice way to commemorate would be to write our story (in blog format). I hope you don't mind me posting about it here. I just thought it might be an interesting diversion for some...
