How to prepare for his culture shock?

Georgia? Wow, how did you end up there? Were you there already and fell in love...or went there for love. I can empathize with the not being able to read part. Dealing with Chinese characters in China was always a battle for me. Though, due to a fatal allergy to fish and, well, obvious bathroom...

How to get rid of telemarketers calls

I just add the number to my contacts as Don't Answer Spam Call or something like that. Doesn't keep them from calling but I can just ignore their calls.

Best way to Travel within Canada ?

It probably wouldn't work for a whole family but for individuals looking for cheap travel, you can sign up for SQM's travel 'mystery shopper' program. I'm signed up but haven't tried it yet...but I have a friend who does it quite often to fly to Europe and Asia. I think anyone can sign up and...

Wow this is a crazy long thread!!! I just read the first post about the seasons/tree and wanted to respond to how nice that was...but now realize I have 65 pages of inspirations to slog through. Something to keep me busy and inspired during the wait I guess. ;D

    TAXES and Sponorship

I actually was happy to see my husband was a tax benefit to me while he is still in Cuba, saved me about $3000 on taxes this year! However, they keep trying to say I now owe money from 2010 because of being married...I wasn't married in 2010! I call them, they say 'Whoops, never mind' and then a...

    Havana, Cuba

Knowing my luck they'll change the exit visa rule the day my husband gets his exit visa...and then he'll have to wait around to get something else. I hope they make the change...but wait until after Aug 3 to do it just to be safe ;D

    Yay!!!

I think if you include your email in your application they email you, it's an implied directive to contact you through email. I remember reading that somewhere but it wasn't really obvious in the application.

To me screenshot just means hitting the print screen button and pasting into a word doc. I suppose actually taking a pic of your screen works too!

Mentioning a break up in your application

If anything I would mention it in terms of 'we had some times where the distance was hard but we always worked through our problems and got back to our goal of being together as a couple'. Most relationships have growing pains, especially long distance ones. I wouldn't be worried about showing...

How to prepare for his culture shock?

I TOTALLY agree with you guys on this point!!!! 487523877843% agreement!!!! I think it's easy to fall into the trap of a parent-child relationship if you're not careful and that is so not a healthy dynamic for a marriage. Nobody wants to feel babied by their spouse. We've talked a lot about...

TIPS - Best ways to keep in touch with spouse while waiting

Sooooo jealous, like KJG's husband, my husband is from Cuba. No email access in his town and my phone doesn't receive texts from Cuba. So we make do with bad-quality 75 cents a minute phone calls. He sends me letters sometimes with Canadian tourists who can mail them when they get back...they...

How to prepare for his culture shock?

Yeah, I think any new place is overwhelming for awhile. Just not knowing where you are and how to get around is stressful. And though he speaks English, being in all English, all the time will be tiring at times. He does have a few Cuban and Canadian friends here already. And me obviously...
