And I got another email from CIC. I was worried because I thought that maybe it was an error on the first email, but no. It was just to let me know that there was a letter on mycic saying that the work permit was approved and that the validity is until the 12 of February of 2017. So one year.

Hey guys, I got an email from cic saying that my BOWP application was updated. I accessed mycic and it's approved ;) When I receive it in a couple of weeks I'll let you know for how long.

If you have an Australian passport you don't need a visa to come back to Canada. Just make sure that your BOWP doesn't expire while you are outside of Canada.
