‘Birth tourists' using Canada's citizenship laws as back door into Canada

Yes, and there are many advertisements on Chinese websites for buying immigration to Canada. If you are rich enough, you can do it. Bring your whole family over quite easily, use Canadian healthcare and social nets while the father returns to China to make money he will not pay taxes on. It's...

    Foreign Service - Strike?

I don't want to give you the name of my MP on this site but will say he/she is not a conservative and so does not have any reason to tell me a fib to save face for his/her party. Of course, the MP did not write me personally, but a representative so maybe it was a big mistake. I don't know but...

    Foreign Service - Strike?

By the way, I wrote my MP and got this response: "...this strike is only affecting the applications of student, work and visitor visas; not spousal sponsorships. Your application is a spousal sponsorship and should not be affected by the striking." These are words from an actual MP. Could it...

    Foreign Service - Strike?

They do have a unique skill set indeed, but the government does not feel this way. Embassies of other nations are almost entirely staffed by nationals (aside from cleaners and guards), whereas the Canadian government often hires locals from those cities to even do lots of official paperwork to...

February 2013 OUTLAND (only) applications!! Here is your thread!!

That pretty much describes the situation here in Beijing. I've written politicans, the press and complained bitterly to my MP but simply ignored. Besides the completely insincere "apology" on the cic website, we are given no feedback whatsover. Maybe I'm naive but I must say I'm surprised at the...

    Foreign Service - Strike?

The cons completely ignore the fact that visa processing is practically at a standstill but tinker away at immigration reform: http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/08/07/ottawa-to-charge-employers-275-fee-for-every-temporary-foreign-worker-application/ Absolute incompetence.

February 2013 OUTLAND (only) applications!! Here is your thread!!

Hey folks. Our application was recieved Feb1, 2013, I was approved later that month and now the VO has been holding my wife's passport since late March. I don't know what they could have possibly been doing with my wife's passport over the past four months. I wrote my MP in early July and a week...

Any responses lately from Beijing visa office??

Hi. I'm sponsoring family at the Beijing embassy and haven't heard anything in a long time. Just wondering if Chinese students have been getting their study visas processed lately or are there heavy delays too?

    Foreign Service - Strike?

We know that PAFSO will not bend, they eventually will get their raises, and the extra cost will be levied onto future visa applicants. It's win-win for both sides while we get the shaft in the end. ...but since there is little choice, so I would certainly be willing to pay extra for them to...

Applying for permanent residency while on a private visitor visa?

Yes. Get her a visitor visa and apply inland. I am acquiring cobwebs waiting for information regarding my wife's status here in Beijing. ???

Is this Immigration system fair and square? Plshave a look and Discuss with me!

That's a great attitude to take and I am happy to hear of anyone getting through this, especially during the strike as it gives me hope. The unpredictability of the timelines cause one to wonder exactly what does "in process" even mean? How many cases does one cases worker work on at a time...

Petition to end strike. What are your thoughts?

Make one and I'll gladly sign. However, don't hold your breath on it making much of a difference. The newsmedia doesn't seem to have much interest in covering this strike. After writing dozens of politicians (including my own MP), and having two letters I sent published in the globe and mail...

CIC Strike, I don't think Canadian government has any feelings for families

Agreed. I'd certainly pay more for better service or an update once in a while. Does anyone know if visa officers have been ordered to put their efforts into "urgent" processing of student visas over family sponsorships, due to the strike? As customers, why aren't we being given any answers...

    China Applicants Thread

My case seems fairly simple: married two years, have a shared baby with Canadian passport, we are the same age, have savings and have a complete application. The only odd thing is that when asking for the passport, they also asked for a copy of my wife's resume. It's unclear to me what they...

    Foreign Service - Strike?

Does anyone else think this government is simply delaying the inevitable, and that they know that eventually the officers will get their big raises? This is basically a childish move by the government to temporarily punish the union without any regard to the fact it is screwing with our family's...

CIC Strike, I don't think Canadian government has any feelings for families

Cities care about their tourism industry. Universities worried about lost tuition money. Stingy companies are worried sick about their cheap foreign labour. Throwing families into turmoil is only a minor casualty, as it is not seen to be profitable.

    China Applicants Thread

Does anyone have any experience with case specific enquiries? We have requested one and of course, no answer yet. Since the VO in Beijing never answers the phone or replies to e-mail, there is just no way of knowing anything! >:( The office has been holding my wife's passport since late March...
