    Thread for outland Buffalo applicants!

@kayan, U-pack is a DIY move. You pack your stuff into their truck and they drive it all the way to the destination. Then you unpack it yourself (or hire your own movers at either end of the trip to help load/unload). I like packing my own things, so it worked well for us. Thankfully (and...

    Thread for outland Buffalo applicants!

Did you use ABF on your move or another company on that move? Yes, I found their quote was pretty accurate. However, I did use more space in the truck than I had originally estimated I would need, so I had to pay more because of that ($100-ish extra per foot extra). But I knew in advance how...

    Thread for outland Buffalo applicants!

I used ABF U-pack in 2009 to move from the US to Canada and was pleased. I would use them again, if I needed to move again: http://www.upack.com/ At the time, I also checked the prices of U-Haul and Pods, and ABF U-pack ended up being the best, most economic option for me.

tips on extending a work permit as a visitor extension, while waiting for PR?

eletyl, I am glad you got it worked out with the online application and have it ready to go. And maybe you will get PPR before your deadline to apply to extend your stay. That would certainly be wonderful!

PPR already - do we need to extend visitor visa?

I have no idea. You could send it off after your trip and wait and see if you get it back in time (and can land), and if you don't have it back in the working days before his time expires, he could then call CIC and see what they advise and if he needs to submit the extension for the visitor...

    Thread for outland Buffalo applicants!

Congrats on your PPR! The email you got should have links that provide the exact address of where to send the passport, the specific sizes of the photos to include, etc, and the part about including your height and eye color. I checked and the link that I got when I got PPR now has a new...

tips on extending a work permit as a visitor extension, while waiting for PR?

I did this. I just stated that I had applied for PR, showed proof of that, and said that I would like to wait it out in Canada as a visitor in order to be with my spouse. I asked for a year and got it. (My stuff was here and my name was one our lease too. And I did not specifically try to...

    Thread for Outland, Quebec Applications!

They used regular mail last fall, so I would think that the Canada Post situation would affect the timing and that it would take longer right now.

    Thread for Outland, Quebec Applications!

Mine took about 3 weeks (when I applied last fall). I think it was mailed to the sponsor with notification of the approval of sponsorship by the MICC and then the CSQ was in the same letter.

Couple of questions - regarding visitor record/photocopies

For the first question, I had called CIC months ago because I had said "no" there, and then later realized (after submitting) that maybe I should have answered "yes" since I had had work permits. So I called CIC, all worried, and the person who I spoke with said it sounded like I answered...

    outland vs. inland application

"3a. so step 1 is sponsorship approval, step 2 is PR application is approved. So after sponsorship, my PR application will start getting processed. When you say "land" - do you mean I can work currently with some form of a temporary visa until my PR app is approved? Or when I "land" is...

    Where to call in Montreal??

RedAlert, Did you try the Inland Quebec thread? I would think your landing appointment would have to be set up with the CIC, but I really don't know since I applied outland and am unfamiliar with the inland process. Perhaps call CIC and ask about the process...

    Thread for Outland, Quebec Applications!

The sponsored person will eventually need the original to register for various things. And perhaps to enter Canada? I can't remember if I had to show my CSQ when I landed? I know I had it with me. Within Quebec, I know for sure that I have had to show it a number of times, including when...

Sales tax on car when moving to canada

I would call the RIV and ask about the process: http://www.riv.ca/Contactus.aspx When I called them, the person I spoke with was really helpful and told me what I needed to know. We did not have to do anything with the RIV (or pay any fees) since my car is 18 years old and has almost no value...

    addresses and employments

I made a separate spreadsheet because I had way too many things to fit in their chart. In the chart on their form, I wrote, "please see attached page," and I labeled the attached page with the form number and question to which I was responding (in case things got out of order at some point.) As...

How important is a joint account?

We only included a copy of the first month transaction report that shows when we opened the account (and any transactions for that first month.) I circled the part where it had the date of when we opened the account.

Apply for Outland as American in Canada - lots of questions

sowap brings up a good point- without a work permit you can't work in Canada. Also, it took me a long time to gather all my information (and my spouse's) for the application, so if you want to submit right after the honeymoon, I would suggest you start gathering information as soon as possible...

questions for people applying outland but staying with spouse in Canada

I can't really answer about the experience of the border because I originally came in on a work permit. Perhaps these threads might help? http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/crossing-canadian-border-with-wife-from-us-t22091.0.html...

How difficult will it be to get a job once I have my PR?

I would think that the MBA from a Canadian institution would be a huge plus, though I don't know anything about the field or the province, so I am not speaking from any experience. (I am, however, a theatre artist, and have an idea how hard it can be to find work in that field.)
