Well I was hoping to have everything sent out today, but I've been delayed once again. Hopefully only until tomorrow. I'm ready for this to be out of my hands (kind of)..

There's a question on one of the forms (IMM 0008 Schedule 1) that asks "Have you, or, if you are the principal applicant, any of your family members listed in your application for permanent residence in Canada, ever: previously sought refugee status in Canada or applied for a Canadian immigrant or permanent resident visa or visitor or temporary resident visa?"
I am a US citizen, making me visa exempt, but I've been issued several visitor records. I answered this question with a "NO" but I'd like to make sure this is the correct answer. I've never applied for an extension as we travel to the US frequently to spend time with my family and I've always been issued a new visitor record when crossing the border. Anyone else with experience in this department?

The next question is mostly my curiosity. The document checklist asks for a photocopy of one of the forms (IMM 1344 B Sponsorship Agreement) rather than the original. It seems odd to me that they ask for originals of everything except this one form. What happens if you send the original? Are you supposed to send the original in addition to a photocopy or keep it?

Final question ;D I seem to remember reading somewhere that you were supposed to submit more than one copy of certain forms, but I don't see where it says that. I've been eyeball deep in paperwork for a while so it's fairly possible I missed it, or I'm imagining things. So does anyone know, just one of every form or are there some forms that they want multiples of?

Thanks much,

You send a copy and keep the original. It is because CIC considers that this Sponsorship Agreement is a contract between you and your partner/spouse, so naturally you keep the original of a contract, and just send a copy to CIC to show you have signed it.

They want 3 copies of the Schedule I - Background/Declaration. It is listed on the checklist for applicants from the USA:

Thanks for the clarification canadianwoman, so glad I asked rather than just assuming I'd gone insane. :D

I guess nobody has an answer on the visitor record question. I am probably going to call today and ask so if I do find out I'll post the answer back here in case anyone else is in the same situation and doesn't know the answer.

For the first question, I had called CIC months ago because I had said "no" there, and then later realized (after submitting) that maybe I should have answered "yes" since I had had work permits. So I called CIC, all worried, and the person who I spoke with said it sounded like I answered correctly (because I am from a visa-exempt country and hadn't needed a visa), and that they would contact me if they had any questions. I should add that I had included copies of my work permits and explained all that in other places of the application.

What I would do, if I were doing it over now, is answer that questions whichever way you feel is right (because I am not sure, though I would probably answer the same way again), and then attach a note on a separate page right behind that page explaining the visitor records (and dates of them) and providing copies of them, if you have them. That way, you have clearly explained the situation, so they know you are not trying to hide anything and are answering the question the best way you can.
