You definitely have an expectation that your application will be processed, but it is subject to the realities which are affecting these government agencies such as the issues with the pandemic. But things are getting better, and i agree it shouldn't be used as a blanket excuse to waive any expectations applicants have that their applications should be processed in accordance with a reasonable timeline.
IRCC is still going with this "6 months" lie though:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/check-processing-times.html

That's part of the selling proposition. They use those numbers to promote their immigration programs and trick naive people into spending their money.

Is it legal? Apparently so.
False advertising is often legal. Here are some other examples:
- 80% of our students become fluent in Mandarin in 6 months** or less
- 80% of our patients recover completely from Covid by taking this supplement for only 6 months**
- 80% of our customers burn most of their belly fat in less than 6 months** thanks to NutriBoom!

But yeah, IRCC owes you nothing. It's your fault for having unrealistic expectations.

** We are committed to processing most complete applications within this time.
Processing times will vary based on:

  • the type of application submitted
  • if the application is complete
  • how quickly we expect to process applications we’ve already received
  • how easily we can verify your information
  • how long you take to respond to any requests or concerns
  • other factors

I have a lot of sympathy for the people who got caught up in delays associated with the pandemic, a lot.
No no no no no no no no!

Dont blame pandemic for this shit. Don't blame it AT ALL.

We all know how it works.

Its not the first time when this kind of thing is happening. Remember in 2014 or so, same shit happened. They could not process applications fast enough so they cancelled all applications mid processing.

Its deliberate. Or atleast IRCC and Canadian government does not give a shit. They want to "land" a historic number of immigrants meanwhile delaying everyone by an unreasonable amount of time.

This shit is all familiar. How is it possible that they claim low productivity due to Pandemic and in the same breath put a target of 400K people to be landed. Something does not add up.

But again, it's not to say that there isn't an ethical guideline for processing applications and treating applicants.
If there is one, I am yet to see one. When it comes to processing applications IRCC follows NO guidelines. Neither legal NOR moral. Nothing at all. There is ABSOLUTELY NO sense of accountability NOR any sense of transparency. This 1100+ pages long thread is a testament to it.

but it doesn't mean there isn't a sense of loyalty that shouldn't be created between the immigrant and the society they're integrating into.
Society and "Government/Beaurocracy" are two different beings. By a decent and moral person in society does NOT force us NOT to be ruthless and self-serving to government and bureaucracy.

Taking the page from same co-worker - company situation, I am moral and decent person in society, for instance, I did home delivery (as a volunteer activity) for old-timers in my neighbourhood because at that time, most of the businesses were not doing it.

But when it comes to Government/Beaurocracy, I will take the MAXIMUM advantage of the situation (till the law permits) because I am sure they will not spare a thought to screw me.

Doing one does NOT include/preclude other. One must be gentle with those who deserve and be absolutely ruthless and unforgiving with those who deserve that. Governments, Beaurocracies, Large For profit corporates come in the later category.

I was once screwed over by one big business (my then employer), it does not mean I treat all those who work for or had worked for that employer like shit. I have way too many friends from there. I DO treat the company with suspicion. If I were to join them again, I will demand a premium and make them pay upfront. Simple.

You know I may not even need to go to Canada to get this visa...

I'll research on my own later but is there a chance to obtain a GC once the E2 visa expires? Or can it be extended like H1B?

Edit:

Qualified treaty investors and employees will be allowed a maximum initial stay of two years. Requests for extension of stay in, or changes of status to, E-2 classification may be granted in increments of up to two years each. There is no limit to the number of extensions an E-2 nonimmigrant may be granted. All E-2 nonimmigrants, however, must maintain an intention to depart the United States when their status expires or is terminated.

Man this visa is really good actually...
https://www.uscis.gov/working-in-the-united-states/temporary-workers/e-2-treaty-investors

Qualifying for and E2 and getting extensions may not be easy although there is a pathway to get extensions. For a person with academic qualifications EB2 is a more straightforward option.

Key word is applicant, you're not a landed immigrant yet. That's the difference i'm talking about, your legal status hasn't vested yet from a legal standpoint. It doesn't mean there isn't an ethical commitment to be fair to applicants.

But hey, if you want to have this attitude, that's your prerogative. I just think it's a bit of a third world mentality.
"I just think it's a bit of a third world mentality" if so then Prik Holde showed it on behalf of ircc and canada that canada is a third world in disguise. IRCC was simply vague, Prik holde couldn't couldn't keep it for long.
some of my canadian pals (30-45 years of age) felt ashamed of this statement when they saw the stream.

IRCC loses money on immigration fees, so the idea that it's a scam is silly.

The processing times have always been an estimate not a guarantee.

The pandemic has affected operations, whether we like it or not. It's affected all aspects of life, the notion it wouldn't affect IRCC and application processing times is unrealistic.

A target is a target, doesn't mean it will be reached but it's anecdotal evidence at best. Even before the pandemic, some people were getting PPR in 3 or 4 months, some were getting around the year mark or after. It's always been like that, it's only been exacerbated by the pandemic.

We've all been through this though. For example, PR cards pre-pandemic were getting posted 2 weeks after landing for many people, post-pandemic some people had to wait for 6 months. There were delays, it's just how things turned out, i think equating delays with purposeful and intentional disregard for applicants is unfair and unwarranted. I understand the frustration but let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. There's a lot of anecdotal evidence here, and the people who have gotten their PPRs within the timeline or thereabouts don't stick around here to give their side of the story, so it only amplifies the bitterness on display here.

Why does one person's stating this upset you this much? Would you prefer he lie to you? This is the case for every country, no one is owed anything until there is a formal relationship established.

It's the same in the US, Australia, UK, everywhere.

Does it suck as the applicant? Sure, but it's the way it works. Your application will get done when it's done, it's precisely because they can't guarantee a timeline that they don't guarantee you'll get a result within a certain timeframe.

Be careful boys. This troll is probably an IRCC agent here seek vengeance from anyone who doesn't accept the queen as your lord and savior and Canada as the best country in the world. If you tell him your timeline he will figure out your application number and then your application will be lost in the system forever in the system, in true Canadian fashion. And then when you apply for your GCMS notes, all you will get in your notes is "CanAda OwEs yOu NuFFin"
islander ain't ircc or troll. islander has some perspectives. i know islander from day one when i signed up on here

A bit different in the uk, but doesn't suck much as an applicant. personally i don't have problems with them delaying my app processing cause i don't have long term plans for canada, I am talking on behalf of most applicants -AOR 2019's 2020's and pre-ita folks. so i may sound like one among them who's upset but i ain't turning away from my pool folks just because i have different plans. Together we strong. i believe in that.

My only thing is, give a good impression of immigrants when you're here.

Talking like this is just going make people doubt whether your values align with Canadian society.

There are already politicians talking about mass immigration being a problem here, and now you guys are going to be coming talking about how you're there just to benefit from the system, and have no loyalty to the country.

It's not a good look.

You guys talk about what Canadians think of what this guy said about Canada not owing them anything, well what do you think they will think if they see potential immigrants talking like this about immigrating to their country?

Like it or not, we're all in the same group as new immigrants, and i think it's important to conduct yourself in a way where you aren't seen as leeches who are just there to get what's good for you, and you're not interested in contributing to the country, or developing genuine ties to it.

Don't expect people to be good when they treat you like a disposable product

IRCC and federal government acting like this makes applicants, pool candidates, all prospective immigrants and whoever comes across this thread realize that IRCC doesn't consider human values that align with Canadian society. Even Canadian citizens are ashamed of it now.

I hope this thread lasts forever to become the history
