Not sure its a technical error from CIC side or am doing something wrong here. Need expert advice.

Am trying to fill the newly initiated online form for spousal sponsorship. On IMM0008, on the dependents section am filling the marital status of my 7 year old child and when selected 'Single" it errors out saying "Annulled Marriage, Divorced, Legally Separated, Single, or Widowed cannot be selected with this Application Category. " what should I select there ?

1. In the Accra thread, they really do vary could take from days to months. I don't think there is an accurate estimated time. You could also join the Accra thread for more info or review others timelines.
https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/thread-for-acrra-ghana-applicants.64640/

2. So normally when the PPR comes there is advice and guide to where to send it I think. There is a VFS in Nigeria I think so via courier courier you send them they would move it to Ghana for processing and return when visa is issued. But as to whether you can directly send it to Ghana I don't think its your decision on how it gets there.

3. NO, haven't heard of this I believe no files are returned that's why they advise not to send originals. But I think if you did send any original maybe that could be returned.

Please I only contributed with my basic knowledge there might be more to it or rather amateurish comment so please heed with caution. Hehehehehehe lol. Do check the Accra thread and be in our updates on the AVO.
Thank you!

Typically NOTHING is returned to the applicant/sponsor and you should follow instructions and not send originals of important documents unless SPECIFICALLY requested. Read the instructions and send copies in almost all cases. Notarised copies plus translations - you do not send photocopies of those, and as they are copies, you will NOT get them back.

(As far as I'm aware in the relatively FEW cases where 'originals' are requested, the request is for eg original [extracts or duplicates] from civil authorities. I.e. it usually does NOT mean the original marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc., received at the date of the actual event but an original issued directly by authorities (this might be called an extract or official duplicate or just duplicate, depending on the country).

The one significant exception I'm aware of is police clearance certificate where they will want the original issued by the government authority - but of course the police certificate is mostly useless outside the context of the immigration application.

But read the instructions carefully and check the country-specific instructions.
Thank you.

As for requesting other documents would really depend on your file if any clarifications or outdated document is needed such as Police Report.
Normally after the medicals the Pre-Arrival Services is sent before a decision is made. So if you have not yet received that letter you should expect that one 1st. After that, I can say from other threads that Passport Request could be next.
The way each visa office operates and send responses and updates vary so would be very hard to find a relevant case similar to use even when you have similar timelines.

Hi I am looking to get married later this year, and am trying to find out all the information required to apply for spousal sponsorship.
I am a PR and my fiancée is in India. Could someone point me towards where I can get started? Also are most of you applying this by yourselves or do you take lawyers/immigration agency's help?
You dont need a lawyer to waste such money...are you willing to pay from $5000-7000 dollars just for spousal sponsorship? He'll no....get the guides, print out the documents and make sure every signature is applied....you need to do a lot of signing and be real and truthful to IRCC and you are good to go....don't hire any lawyer or consultant for anything....You can do it yourself

I submitted my family sponsorship application feb 2 this year March ending I got letter to go for biometric, July 6 I got letter for medical and pre arrival letter same day. What should I expect next. Am I approved already? What will I get next and when will I see decision made and passport request . Thank you

The constant requests for timing are the hardest to answer. Pre-arrival seems to mean 'approved in principal' - medical security and criminality sometimes/often pending. It could be quite quick or take much longer, very hard to say. Next step would be to see decision made (likely not until the other three are done but not perfectly clear).

Lockdowns for dealing with passports are a big wildcard - right now mostly in India.

Do you see any good news in this? Should I be happy already. Thanks for quick response and any other comments from people with experience will be appreciated. I’ll be in the comment section

It's good news - the file is moving - even if it doesn't tell you about timing.

Wow nice one your file went real quick. To get relevant updates you could just follow up with your month's thread say Feb 2021 as well as visa office. Since you from Nigeria am guessing your visa office is ACCRA so you can follow up in that thread to review others apps and maybe find similar timelines and how they work.

I think I might be overthinking things, but I am a bit worried over one of the questions it asks when we try to link our application (we haven't received AOR yet, but it's been over 40 days, so we are keeping an eye on things)

Linking, one of the questions is about the city where we plan to reside in Canada.

On form 0008, I put Toronto.
On form 5532e, we put "Ontario, Toronto or the GTA."

Will the lack of certainty cause us a problem?

Don't know for sure but since that is one of the questions, essentially a security question, if you aren't inputting the correct answer it won't allow you to sign up. You will have to continue to try the different ones until it works since you don't know which they entered into the system when it was being encoded.

I think I might have made things a bit confusing. "Ontario, Toronto or GTA" was what I put in the box on form 5532e. I read that they use form 0008 for the answer to the security question.

99% sure I am over thinking things.
