Ordered GCMS from CBSA on Jan 16, 2021..Got extension email today for another 30 days.
Most likely your security screening is in progress. Also, cBSA extensions are 30-or 60 days as compared to 90 taken by IRCC.

To read on security screening and how it is done, see https://bit.ly/2LS5tLd

You may also end up getting the CBSA report before the extension period expires.

Mine is worse...Ordered GCMS from CBSA (as recommended) on Jan 15 and got extension for 60 days this morning...

"CBSA has communicated that they need an extension of 60 days, beyond the 30 day mandate under the Access to Information Act to comply with the request. "

Seems I need another try.

Extensions from CBSA are usually in 30 day increments like 30, 60 and it's not uncommon to even receive a 45 day extension. IRCC on the other hand usually sends 60 day extensions though some/one third party has been disproportionately been receiving 90 day extensions

Hello, I've got an 60-day extention from CBSA this morning. Would you please advise whether I should get another note from IRCC or still CBSA?
My PNP-O case is AoR in early Dec and transferred to Hong Kong VO so notes/webform are my only options for processing clarity. I don't even know whether eligibilty has passed or not after talking to IRCC agent...
Thank you!

If your application is comprehensive security screening, then 60 days extension is normal. For security screening see https://bit.ly/3b3uWtN

If you received an extension, requesting another GCMS notes from IRCC won't help. Instead, just wait it out and too you will have your GCMS notes from CBSA.

The time limits and extensions are sought pursuant to the ATIP manual, see https://www.canada.ca/en/treasury-board-secretariat/services/access-information-privacy/access-information/access-information-manual.html#cha7

Also, some people have been peddling misinformation that IRCC is arbitrarily taking extensions or more for some and less when they request, which is a bunch of bunch of baloney.

Requesting GCMS notes from IRCC, CBSA or CSIS is a legal process, just like your application processing. It is done pursuant to Access to Information Act and in accordance with the ATIP manual, and each year, all federal agencies have to publish their reports on how well they performed, which is tabled in the Parliament.

As per the ATIP manual, no matter who files the request, it has to be processed without regard to the requestor identity.

Another lies being spread is that filing a complaint with the Office of the Information Commissioner leads to further delays, as IRCC will not release your notes. Filing a complaint is your right under the law. Whether you exercise it or not, is your choice.

If you do, then all complaints are looked into and investigated in accordance with the law, which is listed in detail on the OIC website at https://www.oic-ci.gc.ca/en/how-we-investigate

Unfortunately, some/one person have/has a poor understanding of the law, can't do much about it. Read the source law, and not someone's vivid imagination of what the law out to be as per them.

Thank you so much for the detailed explaination which clear things for me! I'll wait for the result from CBSA then.

1) if security screening is in progress, will they not give GCMS notes until security screening is finished?

2) as per talk with cic customer care rep, my eligibility criminality and med are passed..security not started (talked in january)

3) i had ordered GCMS from IRCC also on Jan 17 but I didnt get any reply of extension from them till the date. as per law, they must inform within 30 days if they want extension.

For CBSA, if your security screening is in progress, or has been initiated, unless the GCMS notes can be captured and do not delay the working of the agency, they will seek an extension, and as as soon as it your notes can be released they will, but surely before the extension time frame expires.

3. Yes, if there is an extension, a notice for the same has to be provided within 30 days.

After your security report is in, it will be evaluated by IRCC and then you will have the final review, in which it is ascertained that all documents on file are valid, such as your passport and medicals, and then the PPR or straight COPR (if you are inland).

If Security is in progress then GCMS will show it like this (if you obtained the GCMS from CBSA)

Check to see if Eligibility was passed by an officer, only there after Security will begin

The extension notice should be provided in the first 30 days, CBSA is pretty good in doing so but with IRCC there can be times when it's not provided and the file goes into what is called deemed refusal. Also with IRCC sometimes there is no extension that is sought and the file just gets delayed beyond the 30 days.

It's almost as good as coin toss whether you will receive your GCMS file in 30 days or if it's going to take far longer (Some/one GCMS provider has disproportionately been receiving 90 day extensions, so beware from where you request)

This is based off stats from IRCC see
https://www.canada.ca/content/dam/ircc/documents/pdf/english/corporate/publications-manuals/atip-2019-2020-en.pdf

CBSA on other hand has a better track; review this detailed comparison for requesting Gcms Notes from IRCC vs CBSA https://bit.ly/34nuJPu that others are quoting from
