Hello,

I am planning to apply for my parent's sponsorship next year and I was wondering if I can invite them here on supervisa (they already have visitor visa). Since sponsorship process can take upto 20 months, can they stay in Canada in the meantime under supervisa?

Thanks

Yes, they can apply for a super visa.

Thank you so much for your quick response. @scylla

Can they also apply for work permit while they're on supervisa?
On CIC, one of the eligibility requirement if you apply inside Canada is that if you have temporary resident permit to stay 6 months or more.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...work-canada/permit/temporary/eligibility.html

please let me know if this is something I can do.

Thanks

Would add there is no guarantee that you will be selected for PGP the first time you apply. Some have tried 5+times and not been selected. They can come visit on a supervisa but they should not move to Canada on their supervisa expecting that this is a permanent move.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind. I know they're allowed to stay 2 years at a time under supervisa, do you know how long in total they get visa for? Is it like visitor visa for 10 years?

Again thanks for your response.

It's up to the visa officer how long a visa they are given. The maximum is 10 years.

Just clarifying that they are unlikely to be able to stay 10 years. They can go back and forth during the 10 years period as long as they keep passing their medicals and qualify for supervisa insurance.
