I don't think so.

To get Old Age Security,
If you are living in Canada, you must:

  • be 65 years old or older;
  • be a Canadian citizen or a legal resident at the time we approve your OAS pension application; and
  • have resided in Canada for at least 10 years since the age of 18.
And the link you provided is to get Guaranteed Income supplement which is only eligable if you can get Old Age Security.

The link i provided so that the person can read him or herself, and its clearly written there that sponsored immigrants will not receive these type of stuff till their time of undertaking.

Why aren’t people looking into whether their parents are entitled to any government payments before applying? Are people not doing their budgets to see if thy can actually afford to bring their families to Canada? Before you apply you should be doing your budget and seeing whether you have the funds to financially support your parents for the next 20 years.

Exact text to be more specific from the link:

Sponsored immigrants
If you are a sponsored immigrant and you have resided in Canada less than 10 years after age 18, you are not eligible to receive an OAS income-tested benefit (the GIS, the Allowance or the Allowance for the Survivor) during your sponsorship period unless your sponsor:

  • suffers personal bankruptcy;
  • is imprisoned for more than six months;
  • is convicted of abusing you; or
  • dies.

I am pretty sure he wasn't asking if he went bankrupt, got in prison, abused his parents or die, what kind of benefit will his parents get while he is still under taking.

In a normal situation, you need to be in Canada for 10 years to get Old Age security and if you are low income while receiving OAS, then you can get GIS on top of it.

So less than 10 years, no OAS, no GIS.

No one here is looking for some money from government. My only intention was to provide a link which if that person is interested can search for himself. And i dont know about these things and never bothered to look into these.

If people are sponsoring their parents they are already financially evaluated by government. And they are capable of that.

And if they are resarching on stuff, which someone tells them, i think its their right.

Also, as they are living with me, would that gives me any income tax credit?

parents should land in province which they applied

I know AB - right away
ON - waiting 3 mon, I bought insurance for 92 days

My MIL is currently on Supervisa in Canada. She got selected under 2018 PGP which is currently under process.
When we applied for PGP sponsorship she was in Canada. Therefore her mailing address and other relevant info on application are Canadian.

Now she have to go back to India for 5-6 months. She doesn’t have a visa for re-entry. She will comeback once PR is issued.

My question is once she return back to India, do I need to inform IRCC?
What kind of informations I need to update with them?
Will the overall process for granting PR status be different if she remained here? (Medical, Biometrics, PPR request etc)
Thank you
