Sponsoring a Parent

Hello,

I recently got my Permanent Residence in Dec 2018, but I was living and working in Canada from 2014 to 2016. I would like to sponsor my mother, who is from the US, to join me in Canada.

My question is: would the years I spent towards working in Canada in 2014- 2016 be counted towards proving my income and ability to support her? Or can I only use the years I have been here as a PR?

Also, on the IRCC website, it says the minimum income required for sponsoring 2 persons is $40,379 for 2018. My parents are divorced and my father isn't interested in coming. Is the cost the same for just bringing one parent?

You can include 2014-2016.

If your parents are divorced, then you don't have to include your father in the minimum income count. However you do have to include yourself and your mother - and any dependents you have (i.e. spouse, children). If you're single, then you need to have enough income for two people (you and your mother).

You are still looking at 3 years until you would qualify, except in Quebec, if you didn't work in Canada between 2016-December 2018.

Yes - if you have a common law partner (have lived with that person for at least one full year), then you have to meet the income requirements for 3 people. Your common law partner can co-sign the application and so that their income is also included.
