Hi All,
While we look forward to receiving an update from CIC wondering how the initial settlement things could be managed post relocation to Canada.
Here is the list of important tasks to complete post movement to Canada that I believe would be useful for everyone plus the questions I have on my mind for quite some time.
Looking forward to have suggestions from members in the group
1. Getting a SIN no. : This is the most important thing to do once anyone arrives in Canada. Any updates what all documents are required to apply for a SIN no. apart from the copy of PR card (especially for people relocating from India to Canada on a PR) ?
2. Opening a bank account: Understand PR card and passport copy would suffice for opening a bank account. Please add if there are any additions to this list.
3. Renting an apartment: Typically lease agreements of 12 month period is the standard practice however not sure what documents are needed to rent an apartment. Is it just the PR copy or anything additional e.g. proof of funds, etc. ? (please mention documents required if moving without a job and as such no pay statements, no offer letter available for submission).
4. Canada Health Benefits: Registration in PHI plan needed to cover for basic medical and emergency treatment. Any suggestions around what all documents to be submitted with health insurance office?
5. Employment Opportunities: Any job portals or consultants to recommend for employment opportunities search?
6. Any advice w.r.t. funds movement?
Enjoy your remaining days in your country, mate! There is sufficient time to do all these once you get your PPR and waiting for COPR.
A valid passport + SIN (which you can get in a single day I think) is sufficient for almost all of these things.
I don't think so. You know there are tens of thousands of applicants each year. I don't think they have enough time and resources to check case by case. Maybe they're all just kind of checking database, and if any red flag, they send the case to the embassy (if what your friend said is true!)

I am November 8 AOR, living in the US for the past 9 years. I called CIC last Friday and the rep told me that everything looks “Good”. I asked him as to why I still haven’t received a request to submit Bio-metrics and he said that we don’t need it from everyone.
Could anyone else share their experience? I am from Pakistan so I thought I still needed to give Bio-metrics even though its been close to 7 years since I have been back.
Any responses would be appreciated

My AOR is on Nov 26, still IP1. Got ADR once in the end of Jan. Not so sure how long ahead to wait, but I believe we will get it in a couple of months.I am not tracking my application that much. I login once a week on Saturday night to check, but that is mainly so that I don't miss any ADRs. As of last Saturday, its still in that so-called "IP1"

The requirement for Bio-metrics is based on the country you reside. It's not based on your citizenship.
I'm not sure about the requirement for US residents. But if you live in Canada and apply as an inland applicant, you don't need bio-metrics even if you are originally from Pakistan. I guess they don't need bio-metrics from US residents as well.
You really should stay cool. This thing is just a tiny little thing in your life, given you will land on the soil of Canada eventually, in one or two months.Yes I'm sorry how bad I am
I have already quit my two profitable contractor jobs (they want to stop the contracting type and let me work as formal / permanent, and I am required to quit my current permanent one if I agree, though it's of quite low salary. But I don't want to change this because it may affect my PR application), so financially my family is mainly supported by my wife's salary, my two daughters also need to get into kindergarten... But man, why worry this much like you? You will be alright. Waiting is the easiest work, though a bit stressful.

Yes, I was stressed out a week ago!!! But now I seem to have eased out a bit. I just looked back at how I had struggled to get my ITA, I was literally in hell trying to improve my score. Quite a few people here know my journey. So compared to that, this waiting is nothing!! Atleast I am guaranteed to land in Canada whereas before I had no clue whether I would ever be invited!!
So I prefer this anyday!!
Yes relax and watch some good comedy movies . Everyone will get it eventually.
