One last question brother, sorry I am testing your patience

I am planning to get affidavit stating that my father in law has gifted me with 80% of funds and the remaining 20 are anyways present in my account.. will this be fine ??
The affidavit should just say how much how father in law has gifted. In INR and the CAD equivalent. The document should have the actual amount. Not the percentage.

You can credit some amount in cash and spend two to three months after that apply for POF .

No problem, keep shooting your queries here.

No need to mention the 80/20 thing. Simply mention the amount of funds being transferred to your account. Keep it as short and simple as possible.

I am sorry I don't have a sample. It's mandatory to mention the CAD equivalent, just good to have.

Hi Alok, thanks a ton for the help...

I am getting a Notarized letter stating that the 700000 INR (80% of the fund) is a gift from my Father-in-Law and also mentioning his PAN Details in the affidavit. Will this serve the purpose ?

Kartheek,
On a different note, how about your PF. You said you're a salaried employee. I am not sure if it would make a major chunk of your PoF, but I think it should definitely be some sizeable part.

if I mention the amount is from my PF, what sort of proof should I show ?

Can someone please tell me, if we are planning to show FD as POF, is the validity of the FD affected? For example, we can convert our savings into for 3 months, 6months, 1 yr and so on. Is there any chance the period of FD is also important? Or CIC doesn't mind as long as we have access to liquidate it.
Thank you

Does not matter when the FD will normally mature. As long as money is there, you are good.

Yes, provident fund balance can be used as POF. You can log on to EPF website online and download passbook, which should have a statement as well as current balance.

Kartheek, the way I was told is that you need to get an attested letter stating that you have Rs.X as your Employer Share and Rs. X as Employee Share. I had recently gotten that for myself and my spouse as well.

I am attaching my EPF cert here. There is no real procedure in place to get this. However, if you need to know, please follow this.

1. Write a requisition letter to the Assistant Commissioner of EPFO, Regional EPFO of your PF account.
2. Get a token done at the front office. Mind you, you may want to have all details of your EPF a/c. Tell him what you need. He will give you a typical Government office admit-slip and tell you which group you will need to go to.( as in which floor and all that)
2. Check with the PRO there and tell him you need a cert like this and don't be surprised if they say "WE DON'T GIVE ANY SUCH CERTIFICATES", just tell him that you need it for your Canadian Immigration. If you belong to Chennai, you should go to EPFO, Royapettah.
3. Get this letter sealed by the guy at the entrance of the office.
4. Once you go to the particular group, they may discourage you saying they don't give such certs either and that there is a passbook available online and that the whole world should trust that passbook even if they're not a part of India.
5. If they say no, please go visit the assistant commissioner. Especially if it's in Chennai, go meet the AC without hesitation and he knows all about this.
6. AC would ask you go back to the group counter and tell the concerned personnel. From then on, it should go smooth.

For folks that are not in Chennai, kindly type the following format in a word doc and take a print out of that. This could help them understand what you need.

P.S: I just noticed my image has not gottten uploaded. So here is the link to the image.
