Hi All,
Thought I'd just post my timeline here, sponsoring my daughter who is not a Canadian citizen due to the ridiculous "second generation born abroad" clause (I was born in UK to Canadian parents). Anyway, here is timeline:
- Application sent - June 9, 2017
- Received - June 13, 2017 (notification by SMS)
- First official email acknowledging receipt and instruction to link account online (I think this is "AOR") - July 12, 2017
- Approval of Sponsor - July 20, 2017
- Currently awaiting request to submit Schedule A, which they said would happen within next 5 days
Also, couple notes about above people's questions on certified copies of translations. I think that (despite the official instructions), this varies by country. I'm applying from Thailand, and the embassy said that they didn't need to certify the copies or notarize the translation for birth certificate and marriage certificate, they just put one stamp that "certified as correct" the translation, and sent this with non-certified photocopies of originals. They said that's how it's done from Thailand, and given that sponsor has already approved, it seems to have been sufficient. However I've also sent several previous applications in the past years (i.e. for proof of citizenship), so it's possible they've just accepted the documents based on comparison with previous submitted applications.
