Indian passport surrender

Hi All,

I have few questions regarding surrender certificate process in Toronto Jurisdiction:

1. Is there a provision to make online payment to get surrender certificate instead of making a demand draft? If yes, what is the process to make the online payment?

2. Instead of going to the BLS Toronto office in person, can I rather book a courier service to get my documents picked up from my place and will be delivered to BLS Toronto and in return service I receive the surrender certificate back to my home address? If such service exists, what is the process to avail this service and where to make the payment and get the pickup/drop-off scheduled?

3. How many photos in total will be required in the surrender certificate process. I know, one 2x2 photo needs to be pasted on the application form. Along with this one pasted photo, how many more photos do we need to send along with the required documents in the envelope, if sending the documents using postal service?

4. Does the photo that we provide in surrender certificate has to be same as the photo that we will using while applying for a OCI card? Can we use different photos in surrender certificate process and OCI process?

Thank you.

My Submission Date is 27 Feb, it is till in status 'SUrrender Certificate is under Review at Indian Embassy/Consulate'.

I applied from Montreal (Ottawa Jurisdiction most probably)
Anyone else waiting for more than a month for passport surrender? Is it normal, anything I can do to fasten up the process

Hi, I got Canadian citizenship in 2023 but did not surrender my Indian passport yet. I have filled online form today under Vancouver Jurisdiction. Shall I get a bank draft of $117.7 as per BLS website? Or how would I know in case Indian embassy penalized me and for how much?

And in this case shall I go to BLS office in-person (planning to go Regina BLS office) or Is there an option to send passport in a mail?

Better do in person submission. You can pay via Debit card for that too.

i recently acquired citizenship and now working on Indian citizen renunciation application. i was able to fill the form successfully for self and it shows in the system but even though i had filled the same for spouse and minor child, and both submitted successfully, there's not showing up on the portal3 site. do i need to create a separate account for them both to submit a separate application? this was not the case with PCC or passport application in past.

also for self application, i get this message -
You cannot take any action on this ARN as the same is under processing at the respective Indian Embassy/Consulate. In case of any queries, please refer the website of the corresponding Embassy/Consulate (or the Outsourced Service Provider, if passport services are outsourced)

Does anyone know the processing time in Toronto. I submitted on Apr 2 and still the status shows processing at consulate
Toronto is generally pretty quick. I had applied for mine on 14th Feb 2025 and received the certificate on 24th Feb. The trends keep changing though. I had 4-6 weeks in mind as the timeline, but the BLS person who filed my application told me that these days its taking just about 1 week to 10 days and 10 days is exactly what it took for me.

Thanks, yeah i too was told it would take 2 weeks, but haven't got it in 2 weeks. I can't see the progress on portal3 as the application was generated by BLS guys (i had to choose the premium because of some address missing in my application).

i suppose, its wait game for another week

Same scenario. They created application. Forgot to note down number.

Applied on April 7. Still no update. :(
