Hadn’t cut number significantly in 3 year plan this is a new change.

They had announced cuts in the 3yr plan but not a pause. This is likely due to growing backlog and also pressures on HC. Harper also paused the program for a few years to deal with the backlog. What will be more interesting is whether PCs will reopen. There will be extreme political pressure to reopen PGP but also the reality that we can’t absorb more seniors which most politicians, bureaucrats and anyone in healthcare will tell you off the record.

Not sure what you meant as political pressure to reopen PGP. If anything, even reading comments on Reddit (which is pretty left leaning / younger audience), they welcomed this news. Not a single comment was positive / supportive of PGP.

It will take years and years before PGP would come back (if any)..

There is only a very select number of people on social media many of whom didn’t even know PGP existed a few days ago. It is certainly a major concern and top priority especially in certain ridings.

No. Reunification with spouses and children under 21 are a priority that will not change.
