Yes your husband can co-sign, but both of you combined have to meet the LICO+30% requirements for the previous 3 years, and have to maintain that during the entire processing of your parents' application.

Just so that I understand and don't make the folly next time around are you suggesting that I should have mailed in the application already by now even though application acceptance begins tomorrow 8 am ?

Yes. Last year, the cap was reached in a day and a half.

Meaning this year if they stick to the 5000 cap, it will most likely be reached on the first day sometime.

Anyone who doesn't already have their app with a courier now or with plans to drop it off with one near to Mississauga first thing in the morning, will probably need to wait until next year.

once limit is reached, do they reject the shipment?

Once the cap has been reached, CIC will return the rest of the applications unopened.

Hi there,
I need some help. I was sponsored by my husband year 2012 and landed as PR april 2015. I worked last year for few months only but decided to stop because of our kids still so young. Im not working currently, can i sponsor my parents with my husband as co-signer?

Thanks for reply

Technically - yes. But if you haven't even started the application process yet then you're too late for 2016. The cap is going to be reached within the first day to three days this week (depending on whether 5K or 10K applications are accepted). You should plan for next year and be prepared earlier.

It's only 5000. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/sponsor-parents.asp
We started accepting new applications to sponsor parents and grandparents on January 4, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. We will accept 5,000 new and complete applications. Your application will be returned to you if it is incomplete or if the cap has been reached.

Yes - it looks like the 5K cap is now confirmed.

Not surprising. I knew 5K will be the cap limit for 2016. CIC cannot change the cap with only a few business days left before Jan 4th. Wasn't going to happen.

Maybe for 2017, the cap may increase to 10K. To be honest, increasing the cap to 10K will only increase the lead time for CIC to catch up. Prior to the 5000 cap, there was approx. 24K PGP applications submitted. With the cap up to 10K, that only really cut the average by half. 10K is still a lot of applications for CIC to catch up on.

I waited 8 AM to download the form this morning and fill it with the correct bar codes (generated after 8 AM). I give it to Purolator express this morning at 10:30 AM from a Staples in Ontario, they said it will be delivered before 9 AM tomorrow. I have no idea how I could done it faster since I need a correct bar code as a proof I completed the form after 8 AM this morning.

The forms have been available for quite some time now..I think since November. You didn't need to wait till 8AM to generate bar codes. :-[

Oh no, I though these bar codes were to verify if the form has been filled today. :( If the quota is reach in less than 24 hours I know what to do for next year...

hi,
i'm in the process of starting sponsorship for my parents. however, there is one thing im not clear about: the rule is the undertaking is for 20 years. while my parents are here as permanent residents, can they start applying for citizenship? if yes, when can they do that? most importantly, once they become citizens, does anything change in terms of entitlements? meaning, are they entitled of financial support from the government (social assistance) or is it the sponsor's obligation to cover for EVERYTHING, even when they become Canadians, throughout the 20year period?
this is really unclear for me and would be grateful for an answer.
thanks

The undertaking continues, even if they become citizens.
