I am the original poster. The whole story is:

So, I first landed in Montreal with my wife on October 13th, 2024. The process was quick at the airport as we didn't have anything to declare or bring after.

On October 30, 2024, I received a notification on my email. My wife's PR was approved and they asked me to send a new set of photos since mine were rejected. I sent the new set with the letter received in the email to the provided address on the same day (October 30).

On November 21st, I received a notification that my application had been approved. When I checked my IRCC account, I could see that it had been mailed.

Due to the strike, I contacted IRCC on November 25th asking them how they sent the card and with whom since Canada Post is on strike. The agent told me that they are not sending out the cards but keeping them even if it shows on the website that it has been mailed. I asked him if I could send them a prepaid envelope or to go pick it up, and he said both were not possible!

He then told me the only possible thing right now is if there is an urgency. You would tell them about it and provide evidence. Then if they deem it so at their discretion, they will arrange to send the card with a different courier. For me, I have already contacted them before asking for the urgent processing of my application and provided evidence (medical-related urgency). I told the agent this and he said he didn't see any record concerning this on my file. I offered to give him the ticket ID so he could check, but he said he could not access it anyway.

So he just added a note to my case mentioning my urgency and didn't ask for any evidence. Then just told me to wait for the decision from the officers who process the cases.

On November 28th, I called IRCC again just to inquire if there was any update. A lady checked and she told me that she could see that my card had been mailed on the 28th. But there is no other information related to which courier or tracking. She said I should wait a day or two and then call again. Later that day, I received an email notification confirming that the card was mailed.

On December 2nd, I called again to get an update. Unfortunately, there is no update. So, all I have to do now is wait.

I will write an update here if I get the card.

For my travel document, today they also told me it was "successfully mailed" on November, 29th. I am also waiting to see of they indeed mailed something.

Hi, thank you for the details. When you said on November 28th, "Later that day, I received an email notification confirming that the card was mailed." Are you saying the IRCC has mailed your card via some courier other than Canada Post?

I mean I received an email notification to go check my IRCC online account where I saw the update saying the same thing the agent told me earlier. Just that the card has been sent, no other information.

AFAIK, IRCC still sends them by regular Canada Post.
Looks like you're in for a longer wait, unfortunately. :(
This can't be possible! When I called (both times), the agent said they sent the card with a different courier. They cannot be lying. Besides, what's the point of sending it with Canada Post, knowing that they won't deliver it and that the reason they send it is urgency?!

I was informed same. They said for first card nothing can be done. Not sure if they are not properly aligned on solution they are suggesting to applicants.

I have travel plan and I am already worried as to what to do.

Alright, good news from my side. I just received my card moments ago. It was sent with FedEx.

Mine is also the first card. But as I explained above if you have an emergency. Contact them and provide evidence. I did that a while ago using the web form. I suggest, in case of emergency, you do that. Then call them by phone.

If you are having a medical emergency not having your 1st PR card shouldn’t impact your ability to get a health card. If urgent medical issue with someone abroad you can leave and apply for a PRTD to return to Canada when ready.

The medical emergency is related to a family member back in my country. So, I used that and provided evidence.

I already got my PR card today.

This post (https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/pr-card-delivery-during-canada-post-strike.861069/post-10965197) wasn't clear if you had actually applied for urgent processing, which is why I posted that Canada Post is the usual way the cards have been mailed.

Congrats on receiving your card via FedEx!
