Thank you for the information but looks like it can be changed to online oath with a valid excuse. Also if they accept the change, isn't that online ceremony finalized with an e-certificate?
********************************** IMPORTANT NOTES **********************************
1. If you are currently
not in Canada, contact us as soon as possible in order to reschedule your ceremony.
Indicate “Outside Canada – Oath of citizenship” in the subject line of the email. Within the text of your
email, include your name, application number and planned date of return to Canada.
2. If you cannot take the oath, i.e. you are not available at this date and time
due to work, health, travel, or
other reasons, you are physically unable or require accommodation, prefer a video oath ceremony, or have
questions about the scheduling of this event, i.e. date, time and location/proximity, contact us as soon as
you receive this invitation with an explanation in order to be rescheduled or to postpone. In your reply,
change the e-mail subject line accordingly, i.e. Ceremony - New date/time needed, Ceremony - video oath
ceremony preferred. IMPORTANT: If you choose to attend a video oath ceremony, it may take up to
approximately 2 to 4 weeks to receive your
paper certificate after the ceremony.
(Why not e-certificate here?)
Pursuant to paragraph 13.2(1)(b) of the Citizenship Act, if you cannot appear and take the Oath at the
date, and time indicated at the top of page 1, you must contact IRCC within thirty (30) days of the date of
your appointment and provide a reasonable explanation for not attending.
************************************************
That doesn't change anything to your situation.
People invited to Zoom ceremonies also have to be in Canada, and if they join the ceremony from elsewhere, are told to leave.
You'll be invited to a second ceremony in a few weeks (or, if unlucky, months), and unless you have a very good reason, and merely being overseas isn't, missing that second ceremony will be considered as an abandonned application, so do your best to join that one.
Also, contact IRCC (webform will do) and let them already know that you can't attend the current ceremony and that you'll be back on a specific date.
