I hear ya bro' totally inept and inefficient federal department. My wife's son (20) doesn't want to exit the country until he gets his PR card, and had to renew my wife's work permit recently since we are still waiting for a final decision. Total gong show IMHO. Damn near impossible to find out why it is taking six months plus to approve one final background check on an individual as well. Absolute disgrace how this whole immigration process works IMHO.

I know of a similar situation where the PA has received pre-arrival and after that has been in Background checks for 10 months. Nothing but dead silence and nothing noteworthy on their GCMS notes. They're still waiting.

Hoping to find anyone in a similar situation who has been stuck in the security part of the background check for over a year. My file was passed to CBSA by CSIS 14 months ago and I am still waiting. "security in process with CBSA" Have nowhere to turn.

Anny update you application?

Day 15 since I requested GCMS notes from the CBSA, have had zero communication from them regarding my query other than my docs were uploaded ok and they received my request. Not holding my breath that my efforts will help at all.

On another note chatted with an IRCC agent yesterday. Took 6 minutes to actually access where I needed to be on there 1-888-242-2100 tel. number, perhaps there is a short cut menu for this; and 28 minutes wait time overall. Conversation was fine, the agent did go into my file and see an eligibility check was approved in Sept. 2024, and confirm that my application is considered non-routine, which presumably means they can take as long as they want to complete a simple background check.

Finally heard back from a CBSA agent today, asking for one more document before they will proceed with my ATIP request. Let's see how much longer it takes to get the next response on our file.

Took my parents 6 years to get it cleared. It didnt help that they were diplomats so they had extensive travel history. they needed internal clearances from every country they were in.

The only thing that speeded it up in the last 1 year is involving your local MP and getting their offices engaged. There is a staff member delegated in each office just for this kind of work to pressure IRCC

Pressure IRCC??? Come on man. I used to think that, till recently, I learned that its not the case.
MPs DO NOT have any say or any authority over IRCC. All they do is simply get an update from IRCC - which you can also do for $5 - but MP will get the update free of charge and much quicker.
But if they intervened or 'pressured' IRCC in anyway - Ethics Commissioner will be behind that MP.

There are no ethics restrictions on MPs asking questions on behalf of their constituents.

They can do considerably more than just get file info.

And most frequently, I assure you, MPs asking repeated questions can influence ircc to move things along.

I am not saying this always works. And they give ircc a wide berth when it comes to security related.

But that does not mean it never helps, nor that the ethics commissioner pursues them for doing constituency service.

(Where did this ethics commissioner idea come from anyway? I've seen one claim that had a source - but they cited a document addressed clearly to ministers)

I understand you are an immigrant and English is NOT YOUR first language. What may help you is to read the posts completely, PERHAPS TWICE, and then try to respond. Did you read the initial post i was responding to? NO, right?..Go back and read it.

The person suggested MP could 'PRESSURE' IRCC in someway.
There is NO WAY AN MP CAN PRESSURE IRCC. Absolutely NONE.
Forget pressure, they cannot even do as little as suggest to process an application - which is otherwise stuck for a while. All they can do is to simply get an update.

Regarding Ethics Commissioner - that comes directly from an MP's lawyer in a 1-1 conversation. Not just one but 2 different MPs - who have clearly stated that MPs DO NOT HAVE ANY AUTHORITY or any tool or mechanism, by which they can suggest, ask or persuade IRCC to process an application which has been stuck in the system for a certain time, even if that time is twice or thrice the case processing timeline. All they can do is get an update.

If you have evidence or literature available, from a reliable source, that proves MPs are obligated to or have tools at their disposal to either 'pressure' IRCC, suggest, recommend, to complete processing of an application - then please provide the link. Do you have it?

Otherwise, dont spread false information on this forum. MPs CANNOT influence IRCC in anyway, nor can they ask, request, suggest or take any action to get an application processed. PERIOD!
