That article you posted doesn't surprise me at all with this federal department. Still trying to figure out myself how on earth does it take six plus months to complete a background check on an individual, are they using MS Dos and the Keystone Cops to accomplish this task in the year 2024? Absolutely pathetic.
They are using LATEST TECHNOLOGY - but seems too much over loaded that's why throwing applications in 'digital bins'....or under inactive officers' ID.....basically so that NO ONE HAS TO WORK ON IT....and no accountability.
Unbelievable what's happening within IRCC.

Just received GCMS notes requested from the CBSA. Like many others, this perpetual background check issue makes no sense. By looking at the notes I can see this issue existed in Feb 2024, and today is still the only outstanding issue holding up our application. Have sent an email back to my contact at the CBSA for an explanation; although not sure if I will get an explanation.

Did you get a response?
I'm in the same boat, CBSA sent the file to CSIS back in May 2023, received their recommendation in August 2023, and for the past 16 months since then has not updated the file. Don't know what to do.

DEMAND LETTER!!!! Simple.

For newbies - Demand letter is a prelude to MANDAMUS APPLICATION. Its an official request to IRCC to get up and start moving their 'bottoms' before you drag them to litigation.

Word it professionally. Clearly explain how long you have been waiting. And by when you need to progress in your case and a final deadline for final decision.
Also point out in your letter - how forthcoming you have been in providing information. if any document was asked, how quickly did you responded (if you did)...etc
And dont forget to note what financial or other impacts this delay may have caused - to your career and family. if you can come up with a logical figure, which you can back up later, definitely mention that $$$ amount!

Failure to get response from IRCC within mentioned timeline - will result in litigation and you will be filing MANDAMUS application to seek the final decision from the Court.

Thats it. send that letter through webform in a pdf format. If there is no serious issue in your application you will see some progress happening within 15 days.
Last resort is filing Mandamus - which ranges from 10-14k..huge amount - and again no guarantees as well.

Interesting, I may follow up on the demand letter, although my last two webforms sent to the IRCC I am still waiting for a response back, so not sure if this will finally get their attention. GCMS notes from the CBSA really didn't tell much of anything to be honest, provides a basic timeline of events thats about it. And it was a Junior employee working on gathering my info. and they are unable apparently to expedite our application, despite the only remaining issue being a background check that has been outstanding far too long. IRCC appears to have zero accountability and it's communication channels are hideous. Not looking good here.
