Can someone please confirm on this ?
both have same timelines if application goes into background check for military / govt retired officials. Specifically, there are no published timelines, nor anyone has got the visa in last 2.5 years, hence its an open ended one in which some people are waiting for 2+ years. I've also applied visitor visa for my parents and its been 16 months now (no update yet)

Usually any applicant with military background gets flagged for comprehensive security screening irrespective of visitor or super visa and it is taking indefinite time; although i have seen instances whereby some’ve got it for their family in 6-7 months. And they were from India too. In this case, you can decide which visa is better.

no guarantee of 2 year time as well, i know multiple people whose wait time has crossed 24 months. this is just a delayed tactic by IRCC and nothing else.
I wonder what are they achieving if it is a delaying tactic. My father retired in 2019 and has traveled several European countries on his passport. This is so strange for Canada to take so much time.
In no way 2 years make sense for background checks.

I think majority of Indian diaspora files are taking longer because of the tensions between Canada and India; consequent removal of lot of IRCC staff from India. Some category had to take a hit; and i reckon it's this.
I have not really seen other countries applicants complaining of such delays.
