Unfortunately, we Indians, are already begging the government of Canada, on twitter of all places, to extend PGWPs. I can understand the frustration of these students and temporary migrants but resorting to begging on the internet? Instead of taking actions to improve their chances, they beg. It’s pathetic. This is the image we portray to the world and we wonder why we’re treated like crap in a lot of countries. I’ve experienced this in the Gulf, where we Indians, are viewed as slaves and beggars. How do we except any country to respect our people when we have zero self respect? I’m ashamed of their actions.
These students are shameful man. No self respect, don't know what kind of families these people come from.

I would request others to counter this extension of PGWP movement and bring back CEC movement on twitter/X. This should be a fair system. If they have worked in Canada they are already getting points for it and are in the pool. Canada needs skilled people and not these students who are buying LMIAs

i wonder how many students would come if they got rid of PGWP for colleges, or made it one year only.
That is the intention of the liberals. Instead of putting a blanket cap, miller wants to crack down on the diploma mills and private colleges. By doing this, you weed out all the crap and it will lead to a natural reduction in the people who are using the study route for the sole purpose of gaining a backdoor entry into Canada. He also specifically mentioned that it’s the responsibility of provinces to crack down on these colleges and if they don’t do it, he will. Lol. I expect a lot of the colleges to completely shutter in the next few years. They’re going to review the PGWP and make changes. I’m expecting them to give PGWP to only those programs tied to the categories. So healthcare programs, construction programs and STEM ones. We’ll know in the coming months. With the liberals, it’s hard to say.

They basically ended the carbon tax for heating. Ending it for heating oil, which is worse for environment than gas and only Atlantic Canada uses, will be seen by any court as political and only to get votes. Provinces saying they will stop collecting tax on gas heating. It will definitely go to court.
I wonder what it would be like to be a liberal supporter right now, when the party they supported is taking a 180 degree flip on almost everything they said a year or before.

Miller was waffling on the topic of PGWP extensions too and said he won't commit to anything yet, maybe no extensions anymore. I doubt that the movement will have any impact at all on the decision over PGWP. Last year, a lot of MPs were advocating for PGWP extensions by this time of the year which eventually lead to another extension. That's not the case this year.

It is their policies that got the temporary migrant population in Canada to overshadow both, the annual permanent resident intake and the indigenous population of Canada. Fraser and his predecessors messed up the immigration system so bad that immigration has the chance of becoming an election issue pretty soon. This has never happened in two decades. Miller is toast if he commits to an extension when the liberals are on their way to being relegated to minority party status. They cannot solve housing without a deep reduction in the number of temporary migrants. He has to find a way to politely ask those on temporary permits to leave once their visas expire. It’s a major screw up by the Liberal government and now Miller has to fix it.

BetterDwelling just released an article showing Canadian Intl Student applications have dropped sharply.
Something like 21% drop from India, the largest source of the category.

Imo I think Indians have figured out how to game the system. More and more are coming here on Tourist Visas and gunning to get an LMIA because that is a better and CHEAPER path to PR according to them. Personally in touch with a few who have done that, and they are from a South Indian state (not Punjab. )

For all the jumping up and down of "new" Canadians trying to be more Canadian than Old Growth Canadians themselves, Even at this peak of anti immigration sentiment / wave, more than half of the country still does not think that higher immigration is a problem.
The monetary benefits of immigration is deeply entrenched in this country.
Agreed!! But..

My boomer bosses and colleagues LOVE the immigration. Heck they would get in even more immigrants if possible.
It keeps the wages low and the demand especially of housing high and guarantees their multi million retirement plans.

The anti immigrant wave is mostly coming from the people who don't own much. And you don't have a voice when you are not worth a lot so..

All this immigration and the country has entered a technical recession officially going by today's GDP numbers.

When I was viewing houses, most Canadians I met told us how happy they really are that we(immigrants) are coming here. Their lives have changed for good because everything they own has grown in value and they are no longer living on blue collar standards. So there's definitely a side to that conversation.

Well, good thing in Canada is that there are only 40 million of them. And each person counts more in elections than say in USA (lets not even think about India... you know how we count there). So yes, if there were enough folks who were impacted they would have showed up in elections etc.

What has changed from 2022 is that the folks who are house-have-nots have become more vocal and stronger at yelling it (remember, house ownership in Canada is still 66.5% or more -- https://www.statista.com/statistics/198969/home-ownership-rate-in-canada-since-2003).

That and together with rising cost of living due to inflation and high interest rates the voices have come in unison.

You know, I am not that well educated in economics and finance but one thing is for certain. This slowdown is not natural and is manufactured. By raising interest rates. I know some can say that growth (economic not only housing price) of last 10 or 20 years was un-natural but still what is happening here is that BoC has hit the brakes hard on money supply.

Why it matters? All it will take is them taking the foot off the brake and economy will roar again.

The weird part is that Canada is taking a money supply only approach to the food and housing inflation. Lots of options are still on the table but they are not being looked into. Things like boosting land supply. Boosting food supply by offering subsidies to farmers to grow more vegetables. Things like building more storage facilities to store veggies for winter months.

They will drop, India itself has forced that to drop by reducing staff in the Canadian consulates.

Canada has a policy in place till Oct 2025 to allow people to move to Work Permit from Visitor visa while being in Canada. It helps a lot.

The monetary benefits of immigration is deeply entrenched in this country.

You’re missing the point. No one in Canada, including new immigrants, is against immigrants or immigration as a whole. Canada is probably the most immigrant friendly country in the world. What people are against is the current scale of immigration encouraged by the Canadian government in the past 3 years. You’re living in La La land if you think boomers are a homogeneous voting block who only care about home equity. Many are appalled by the fact that their children and grandchildren are experiencing a massive decline in living standards. Immigration is not the sole cause of the housing crisis but the Liberal government has turbo charged it and made it ten times worse by dumping millions of people into the country without any planning or investment in infrastructure. Housing is only one aspect of infrastructure, there’s also healthcare, schools, public transit etc. This plan of the Liberals will backfire immensely if they don’t get it right. A perfect example of this is Sweden. They were the most pro immigrant country in the world and they engaged themselves in a massive demographic experiment which failed spectacularly. The entire country, within a span of 10 years or more, turned on all immigration and elected an anti immigrant party. The Liberals are treading on dangerous waters.
