I agree that wages should be pumped up to keep up with the inflation. I am so upset that I have to pay for that. I am not on the negotiation table (Directly!!!!!)

Why dont they take the 9% now and continue negotiation latter on a slower pace. As the country economy heals from Covid. ...etc.
That’s point. We as tax payers shouldn’t cover most things. We barely even spend on defence and are lucky the US is a solid ally. We have to emulate countries like the UK and US. Treat everything like a business and not just rely on tax payers. This is a government issue, not federal workers issue. I’m in the private sector so can’t understand what the fed workers are going through, but it seems this has been an issue for a while.

Also, the economy only got flat recently. We are in debt but we didn’t stop over printing money during the covid boom.

Lastly, fed workers are not as easily replaceable as you think. They go through a rigorous background check that could take ages. Thisis why Pearson Airport was a mess last summer. They couldn’t hire anyone quickly because of all the background checks.

initially I was on the frustration/anger campaign however after alot of reflection & To be honest & even though I got impacted (cancelled Ceremony on the 27th of April), I do support trhe PSAC strike, over the past two years as a salaried employee in the private sector (who can't by contract be part of a union) Infell way behind inflation and I can relate to those public Servants whom arw actually less fortunate on the salary scale vs private sector. On the other Hand they do have other legitimate asks including and not limited to remote work for the roles thatbdo not need access to the office, I do not have a remote work myself due to my job nature but I've seen my colleagues whom could work remotely being way more productive when offered a remote or at least Hybrid work model, finally yes they have the right as well to Job safety, as it is they are struggling to keep ip with the enermous ammount of applications in retrospect to other countries with similar immigration policies.

finally I am frustrated like anyone else who was waiting on their Oath like myself in the past 10 days. Having said that, as a "soon to be" Canadian, I fully support the public workers, the government needs to up their game. I did lose around 1700$ as I had a no e refunadable ticket on the 15th of May due to a trip I was planning to a destination that my country of origin passport (Egyptian) wont enable me to make the trip as I do not possess a visa for my destination and irs impossible to get one on such a timeline.

all that said, I think everyone needs to remember why we applied to become Canadians, I'm assuming/hoping that the majority do geniunly believe in Canadian Value, Rights and Freedoms, in which in that case please direct rhe frustration at the right accountable/responsibleand negelganct government that left a critical union without a collective agreement and allows for hard working Candians to fall behind by that much vs inflation. I'm not Candian yet, and My political tendency is liberal, but Liberals really messed this one up.

I am just a general and selfish human being, who can't sacrifice myself for others's ambitions.

I am just so frustrated after decades of wait but my oath ceremony would be hindered because the absence of work from the public servants.

Will they benefit me even if I show any support to them or even stand with them. Any compassion on the strike would just worsen the situation and increase the uncertainty of ending the strike. They have time to play the game but who would care about my application?

They have never standardized their application progress, which made my application to be processed in such a long period of time. I see so many applicants who submitted much later than me already have their oath ceremonies finished? Why does that could happen? Do I look like a terrorist so deserve longer background verification? Why those paper and family applicants were priotitized much more than mine? They are only asking for more benefit, but do they have really tried their best to standardize their review process and treat all applicants in a fair way as much as possible?

Canada is founded by waves of immigrants but what I can observe now the old generations are just spoiled too much, while lacking the sympathy with the newcomers. The longer the strike, the more undercetainty my citizenship application will be....... who would compensate to my loss??

We have paid same fees to the governemnt and I am trying my best to provide any information documents required by the officers, just wish my application could be processed asap.

When I went to the STC on Thursday morning, I have heard they were singing "we don't care about others".... hhhhh If you don't care about our applications, why should I care about your appeal?!

My expection is pretty simple and straightforward, as long as IRCC could to some extent resume their work, I am happy to stand beside them for their rights

Cooperation always is founded on the mutual understanding, and continuing the strike wouldn't gain support from us.

The lack of memory from immigrants is a known phenomena. It is not uncommon for them to be very grateful initially when immigrating but eventually even adopt anti immigration policies later in life, often confusing the human with the country they are coming from.

More often than not, people's views on immigration and other policies eventually reverts to the person's own views, even re writing their own history sometimes and justifying that they were different or their situation was not the same.

Perhaps the more well known group example that we can see frequently on tv are the immigrants in Florida, many of them initially from Cuba that are now staunch supporters of hard line anti immigration republican politicians for example.

What are you blabbering about? Who on here said that they are not supporting immigrants and want immigration to stop or anything on those lines?

The bottom line - you and a few others on here who are in favor of the strike can keep at it as much as you guys want, but most of us on this forum are immigrants and are being affected by the strike and are not in favor of the strike nor ever going to be.

If the public workers are selfish to go on strike because of their work conditions and affect scores of immigrants' lives then why shouldn't us immigrants be selfish and not support their strike because it is holding up the processing of our applications?

Nah they would rather rely on their ignorant, factually incorrect beliefs. There's a lot of mental gymnastics involved in blaming workers for decisions made by their bosses and the various levels of govt.
Literally someone posted a while back saying they want the people on this thread to only have certain type of viewpoint. Textbook defination of echo chamber that just reinforces their ignorant PoV.

And you do raise some better points.
But here's a question: who decides the standardization of applications? The agents we all try to call and get put on hold for hours? Or their bosses?
When the issues are so systematic its the leadership that needs to be pulling their weight and being held accountable.

A lot of ER departments are closing down during weekends across Ontario because instead of investing into our workforce, our great premier decided to not spend MILLIONS from the covid fund that his govt got from federal to show lower deficit.
Now till how long do you think its okay the workers there (who arent just nurses btw similar to how psac are not just cra/ircc agents) accept shitty 2-3% increase, terrible hours and work conditions?

So yes, improving the conditions of the people working does impact you as well.

I am not sure this is a comprehension problem but all of us here are affected by the strike if we live in Canada. More to the point, my IRCC application is also affected just like everyone else's is... The difference is that I don't come into a forum whining about my application being delayed by a strike. You're welcome to do so but to expect everyone here to jump on your self centered echo chamber is a bit much :D

I never said everyone on this forum should support my POV. Clearly you are so selfless that you are still supporting the strike even though your application is held up and people like me who are not in favor of the strike are so selfish. I am sure the IRCC workers will nominate you for an award as you are fighting so hard on this forum for their demands! lol

I hope the strike ends quickly. But let's say it doesn't end soon, I'll like to see your tone if your application takes 4 years to process lmao

I would argue that in Canada, it's not lack of memory, but the exact opposite. A lot of people I've met have taken their trauma of migration (and it is trauma for many), as a "badge of honour" and (cruel but necessary) "rite of passage". They insist that newer migrants have to suffer, because they did too. So not loss of memory, and generally most non-native Canadians support migration, so it's not comparable to Florida.

Meanwhile, those inexplicably getting decision made in record 6-8 months (at the expense of backlogged applicants), seem to have little empathy for those waiting for years. Rather, they often shout down such people.

One wonders whether this is perversely by design: granting some files at breakneck speed, whilst needlessly delaying others for years; to create an environment of self-hate amongst migrants, rather than one of empathy.

If this was the US, thousands of People would march to the capital for a massive protest, in solidarity with suffering migrants. Not so in Canada.

This is typical Colonial politics: "Divide and rule" and "Every man for himself”.

I don't know if you know about US immigration. For Indian, Chinese nationals, the employment based Green Card process takes easily a decade or so and it has been like that for at least the past 10 years. No one protests there in support of such immigrants.
