Hello everyone.

Need your help once again :)

On my COPR it is written :

State of destination : ON
City of destination : Toronto

Is it just because I "check" Ontario on the wish destination during the process (I don't even remember to check that...) or do I really need to land in Toronto?

Thanks for your time!

Yes. If you land anywhere else, you'll be arrested at the airport and would be looking at at least 5 years in prison.
@Lixa
And then you will be made to ride a moose all the way to Boston where they will serve you tea.

And in Canada? Always have to be studying because of competition for jobs, salaries are way below COL, government doesn't help with buying houses at all, level of service is just crap.
I must say that issue is also applicable with US IT companies as well. The upside is relatively low taxes, about 20-30% higher wages and saner house prices. Is it enough to compensate for living in USA, dealing with Americans and massive amount of crime and violence in USA? I don't know. I will not live there.

Indeed. If I was married I'd enjoy fields with nobody and nothing to do for miles upon miles too (at least for a few months anyway). But that doesn't mean Canada isn't a gigantic ghost town with very few and very boring residents. I'm still young and looking to live like I'm young, there's so much to life. Just gotta be in a country where there are actually people living.
I see nothing new here. Europe is a high population density place. Plain and simple. "New world" has always been a low density place. If I wanted to live in country with lot of open space, tolerance to immigrants and closeness to IT mecca of US, I go to Canada.

If I want to live in cultural centres of the world, I will go to ... well many places. France, Spain, Turkey, Italy, UK, Japan, China etc ... All of these places have many millennia's of culture behind them. Canada is young. Its just 150 years old. The heritage buildings are like what? 70-80 years old? In Europe a lot of people have family homes that are more than 100 years old. There is not much tradition wise here. There is much less here even subculture wise. All these things make people interesting and fun!

So of course you will find Canada boring! If you want fun, try Japan, China, Korea and get into their subcultures. They have a lot going on. Don't go with a mindset of settling there, go with a mindset of experiment and adventure. Be open to try out new. Isn't it thats what youth about? Go as an expat or go as a foreign student. I actually thought of doing this about 13-14 years back, I got a really generous scholarship, I got a research position in U.Tokyo. But then Tohoku earth quake happened and entire plan was shelved.

Small perk of living in 3rd world. Most people are willing to move with you if you can help them and there are way too many of us for us to be ever really alone.
How did you help your friends immigrate? Student visas? I have a few friends who wants to come but it’s so complicated when they basically have nothing. Even their English is shitty.

Does Brazil have a culture of emigration? Indians have a strong culture for emigration.

If a person emigrates from India, people congratulate him/her and consider him/her made. It is a status symbol in India if one holds PR/citizenship of another country.

Biggest help? Save them money. Application for PR is possible without paying through the nose. Second, get them in contact with real people who can actually solve their issues -- like answering PFL, reviewing letters etc. Third , getting them GCMS notes ... for free. Fourth, getting them recruited during tech boom by getting their CVs past HR. Fifth, helping them practice IELTS speaking, writing and simple test taking skills. My template for writing has been good enough to get them 7.5 in writing. I made that template for AWA - GRE in 2009 or so. It has worked fine till now. Sixth, arranging PCCs. I know few folks in mumbai and pune police department who can speed up process or find whats wrong with stuck applications. I introduce them to my friends who are immigrating. Most of this is something I got done for myself and just reusing it for others.

Brazil is not a largely immigrating country, and most don’t know how to immigrate, but if you ask anyone there, majority will say they want to.

Thing is though, unlike India, Brazil doesn’t really teach real English in schools so they either learn from scratch when they decide to immigrate (in their 20s so it’s harder to learn) or move to Portugal as a starter to get EU passports. There are lots of Brazilians in Portugal and it’s pretty easy actually.

Also a lot of Brazilians are Italian decedents, so they can get Italian citizenship if they are willing to go after the ancestry paperwork.

There is a large community of Brazilians in the US too. Several cities in Massachusetts are Brazilian dominated, like a china town. Most immigrated illegally and married, or took advantage that any fast food joint could sponsor them back in 2000-2001 like my stepfather and his friends did.

So to summarize, Brazilians aren’t a large immigration driven country, but it’s more of lack of resources and knowledge about immigration, but they would if they could. By the time they have the knowledge and resources, they are mostly already too old for most programs.

You can land anywhere.

Welcome to Canada.

Once settled, be sure to check back in here to bitch and moan about how much you hate this country .
I haven't been on this forum a long time but this is a trend that I only see here. On Reddit people seem to be much more eager to call Canada their home. I worked in Canada on an intra-company transfer permit and I do agree that it's not a perfect society. That being said, it's much better than the vast majority of countries out there and that's why I am trying my best to succeed in my PR application.

People forget the value of clean air, clean roads, good education system, and take these things for granted and only focus on the negatives. Not leaving Canada, incessantly hating on it, and discouraging others who want to immigrate there is just beyond my comprehension.

Had a few Brazilian colleagues .. Really fun people to work with. I think 50% of them actually stayed back in US and rest actually wanted to go back home so they did their stints in US and went back.
