called IRCC yesterday - I asked about my background check status and the agent simply said it has not been started. Unbelievable. Meanwhile, a friend of mine who applied Dec2021 has completed her oath today. In addition to this, I have applied for IRCC and CSIS notes but neither have got back to me of course

Background not started is unbelievable. Call again and ask specifically about security and criminality status.

Csis will respond by regular mail within a month, so check your mailbox for a Large envelope. You can apply for case notes from CBSA. Specifically ask for case notes and security screening activities.

Call 10-15 times repeatedly after not getting through. try less busy times of the day.

whenever they open est. The trick is to keep calling repeatedly. Press the menu options quickly. Disconnect and dial again. Works every time.

I did ask about criminality/security screening and the agent just said nothing has started yet. I don't even know if CBSA notes is worth it at this point. This is a terrible process.

another week goes by with no update. I'm losing faith in my application even being touch this year as Im well into year2 now. Unless of course one day they look at it and the process wraps up within a few short months but thats major wishful thinking.

Has anyone who is also waiting like me considered withdrawing and applying again? I read that even the process for withdrawing could take up to 6 months somewhere on here..sheeeesh.

I have some travel plans and because of this unwanted delay I will have to get PR cards and passports renewed which is costly and time consuming process. OATH can come in middle anytime and waste all the effort put in renewing these documents. This is so bizarre from IRCC as to keep applications waiting endlessly without any ETA. Just give a generic processing time of 2+ years and no one has any idea what is hold up and no way to move along any blockers. Such a weird process where some lucky people can get everything in 6 months and some people have to wait for endlessly for the same process

Do you know which office is processing your application? If yes, drop an email to that office asking for status. If worked for me. I had not received any update for more than 1 year after AOR. So dropped an email and within a 2 weeks, my background check was marked completed. So no harm in trying.

how do you find out? I've only received AOR. I had emailed my MP and he mentioned that my file is located in the sydney office, but I live in BC though?

Try calling IRCC and ask the agent about the processing office.

lol - just called. My file is at CPC-Sydney.... I don't think thats a local processing office is it.

Got CSIS notes in the mail: "Security Assessment: a search of this bank was conducted and no personal information concerning you was located."
..I don't think my application has been started yet. Despite being 'in progress'...
