Hm... I spent 6 hours in ER when I felt on ice. When I asked a front desk, I was told that my estimated time would be 14-17 hours. I just went home. Maybe, it's Ontario problem?

I am not sure about the kid. I know that he has hard time breathing. My friend cannot get him to the doctor. The appointment is in May; signed up in October.
Not sure in which part of Ontario you live.

I live in Ontario and on December 24th (Christmas Eve), myself, my wife and kid had to go to the hospital because we had flu-like symptoms.

We went to ER and got to see the doctor in less than 20 minutes after arriving to the hospital, this was, again, one day before Christmas Day.

In fact he encouraged us to come back at any time if we needed to.

As I said, "unless its a part of medical issue".

Chest pains are given due haste in ERs in Canada. Complain about chest pain and they will hook you up to a ECG and take your BP in minutes. Once they are sure that its a Non Cardiac Chest Pain, probably some acid reflex or something else, they will make you wait in ER for 10 hours before a Dr looks at you.
If a rib is broken, it's not a chest pain. But it's sure as hell hurts a lot and pretty dangerous. Punctured lung (yes, it's extreme case, I know) also doesn't feel like chest pain. In the end of the day, I am not a doctor. I know it hurts and want to see someone who will tell me what's wrong with me. I pay for that. I am ok with waiting 3-4 hours to see a doctor because of my less-than-important pain; I am still hurt, FFS and I want someone to make sure that it's not broken.

As I said, "pain" depending upon medical situation. When you go to ER they do a triage. My mother takes blood thinners so chances of celebral bleeding is higher thats why they rushed her CT for a head injury.

If you go with a painful situation in which they expect a punctured lung, I believe they will attend you faster.

if you go with fever and unbearable pain in lower abdomen, they will attend you faster because it could be an appendicitis pain and ruptured appendix can be lethal. Fever sort of indicates (not 100% sure though) that.

There are painful situation which need immediate remedy.

But then there are painful situations that can wait.

They mostly know what they are doing.

And why is that? Maybe, because Ford cut the funding and many doctors move to the USA for more money.
There are many reasons.

One is that everyone in Canada is entitled for healthcare so they show up when they feel they need it. In USA, people actually rethink if they need to see a doctor because unless you have a good cover, you can end up paying through your nose. And coverage plans in USA can be a bitch to put it mildly.

Second is there was a time when atleast in BC the provincial government was actively trying to reduce the intake of doctors in family practice by controlling reidency seats. This was early 90s. Then they slept over it and never restored it. So right now doctors are actually in short supply.

I believe other provinces tried that too.

Then its the headache of running a practice. It takes a lot of time and money. It drains you. So people want to specialize and work in hospitals. Meaning, the front door of medical care ie family practice is broken. Its like running a small business. And running a small business in BC sucks.

Then ofcourse, lure of USA. Many hospitals directly recruit doctors from canadian universities. However this is not as massive of a problem as others above are.

Your ER wait time is high as hell because there are insufficent primary health care clinic to handle basic things. So everyone runs to ER.

You are mixing up things.

Your link is talking about the time it takes to be admitted, I'm talking about the time it takes to be assessed by a doctor, they are two different things.

According to your link, the waiting time to be assessed by the doctor is 2.2 hours in average for all of Ontario.
Maybe I was just unlucky that day.

Here is the current wait times for Sunnybrook https://sunnybrook.ca/content/?page=ic-emergency-ed-wait-times . It shows 5 hours 13 minutes. Maybe the day I went to Western it was similar but something went sideways.

AOR Oct 2020, the files were being processed by Ottawa. When I submitted documents to add my wife in Dec 2021, they transferred my application to Montreal. Now when I want to add my child to the application, they're asking me to send documents to the Ottawa office email address.

So, Montreal just wasted my whole year doing nothing.

No worries. I am moving to Canada because from February 2022 I am in a constant state of running. You see, I loved my city and my country. Right until the moment, my president decided that life is too boring and it's good time to start WW3. I didn't agree with that and thus, I moved away. Canada gives me a stability at this moment. If you look at my posts, you will see that I started to comment only around April 2022, even though I applied in January 2021. I was way less stressed until Feb. 2022. After that, I had a choice between Canada vs. draft.

If the government cuts immigration, my chance wouldn't decline. I have Masters from Canada, I have in-demand job. If not Canada, then I would have moved to Netherlands. I am against this level of immigration. I am not against the immigrants but accepting this high number is careless approach and as a new immigrant, I suffer because of that.

If Canada reduces immigration numbers, I wouldn't lose my chance. However, if I would lose it, then I wouldn't care about Canada and move to another country.

Hope that I was able to answer your questions.
You're from Russia? Damn. You're in a rough spot. Since you're Russian and if your goal is to settle in the United States permanently, why are you moving to Canada then? To be very honest with you, you are probably wasting a lot of your time. The TN visa is not an immigrant visa and most Canadians who use the TN visa to work in the US, are only there for a temporary purpose and then they eventually return to Canada. The ones who want to continue living in the US, opt for sponsorship through H1B visas and L1 visas. The TN visa does not allow dual intent so you cannot apply for your green card. It would probably take you 5 years or more to obtain Canadian citizenship depending on how awful IRCC is at processing citizenship applications. In that time, you could have obtained a H1B visa or an L1 visa if your skills are in demand as per what you say, and since you're neither an Indian or a Chinese Citizen, you wouldn't even have to worry about the greencard backlog.

@MajorGrom I couldn't care less about this whole Canada vs USA thing going on here, but your info on the US seems to be through some rose tinted glasses. I lived in the US for 9 years, and I have had insurance the entire time. Employer sponsored health insurance doesn't mean the employer pays for it. Your monthly premiums are deducted from your paycheck. The advantage is simply that it's tax deductable.

But even after monthly premiums, you have to pay your deductible and/or copay. In the absence of serious illness or an accident etc, most people will never reach the deductible limit each year, so you end up paying your monthly premiums PLUS your entire deductible. Health insurance companies literally exist to cover as little as possible and take as much from you as possible in health emergencies. Their insane profit margins speak for themselves.

Next, I have never had a wait less than 4-5 hours in US hospitals. Whether it's a simple physician visit, an ER visit, or an actual hospital visit.

Yeah Canada has issues and all, but the US healthcare system is broken as hell. I understand what you said about US still being the better option for you, that's totally fair. But try not to paint yourself too idealistic a picture of what American healthcare is. It's among the worst in the developed world.

especially since @MajorGrom you are from Waterloo and a lot of Waterloo students go to the bay area after they graduate, so I believe it should not be that difficult to get an H1B sponsorship for you?
