I know someone who has to go to home country for 1 week while studying.

Let's say she gets permission from university and professors to be absent for 1 week, will it impact the 'student status' of her?

Will it cause any immigration problems going out of Canada and coming back to Canada?

There's no issue leaving. However she needs to make sure she has what's needed to return. You haven't said where she's from and where she's traveling. In many cases need to have a valid TRV to return. But again, depends on her circumstances.

She has multiple entry Student Visa already, in her 3rd semester of studying now.

Will go to India and come back.

Plan is Reading Week + Extra 1 week (absent). Total will be ~2 weeks of stay in India

A student visa doesn't allow re-entery. Are you sure it's a student visa and not a TRV? It's extremely important that it be a TRV.

but it says "Multiple" on the Stamp on passport. doesn't that qualify as multiple re-entries?

It is possibly @keys8014 is confusing the terms, but is clear on the intent of the documents. The Temporary Resident Visa, allows international students to enter/re-enter Canada. The Study Permit is the document immigration officers give students at the port of entry (PoE) enabling them to study in Canada.

As long as your friend's TRV (The document stamped in her passport) is valid (hasn't expired yet), she can "technically" leave the country and return. But it is possible immigration officers will question why she left in the middle of the semester. So she should have an explanation ready.

if a student wants to go for a leave while the semester is ongoing.. does the student have to ask permission from the student advisor or from each professor?

There is no bar on an international student to go out of Canada during her studies. My daughter is on a student visa and is pursuing one year certificate course there. She came to India for three weeks recently during her vacations (between two semesters). She has just returned back. She has not faced any problem at the airport.

OP is not leaving in between semesters. He/she wants to leave during. So it's better to contact the school to make sure that won't result in making the term as part time vs full time. (hopefully not going to miss important exams/tests and project deadlines)
