Hello,

I recently got a permanent position, and my PGWP is expiring in 2 months. I'd like to know what is the best way to extend my status so as to be able to keep working?

Your current status (PGWP) cannot be extended. I suspect that your employer will need to go through the LMIA process, so that you can get a new work permit.

Your employer needs to obtain an approved LMIA. The permanent position isn't enough to extend your work permit.

What about the Ontario Nominee Program? I was thinking about the international student with job offer stream since I'm in Ontario, but maybe there is not enough time to go through all the paperworks.

I'm not sure you have enough time if you're just kicking off the process now. You need to have the actual nomination in order to extend your work permit. I guess you can try and see what happens. However make sure you have a plan B in place in case you don't have the nomination before you work permit expires.

Thank you. Assuming I need to go through the LMIA process, would the PGWP provide me with any advantage over not having a work permit at all?

No advantage.

Thanks a lot scylla. I read in one of your previous posts that the LMIA process can take as long as 4 months, and also at least one month should be added since the employer needs to advertise the position first. Would it be possible to keep working during all this processing time even if the PGWP will be expired?

You can only continue working if your employer receives a positive LMIA and you submit a work permit extension before your PGWP expires.
