Hello everyone,

My PGWP is expiring on July 05, 2025. I have an approved LMIA from my employer. After 2 months my open work permit will expire. I have two questions :

1. Should I apply immediately for the closed work permit and continue working and wait for maintained status ? Is it early ?

2. Or, should I apply 1 or 2 days before the expiration of PGWP (i.e July 05 ) ? Is it too late ?

Which scenario is better for me. I am afraid as these days IRCC is not providing maintained status until they make a decision. I saw a guy who was given only 2 months after his PGWP expired to work on same conditions ?

I would apply immediately if you already have an approved LMIA. Haven't heard of "not providing maintained status until they make a decision" cases. When you apply online, you get the WP-ext letter normally 24 hours after submitting the application. Nowadays they're giving that letter for 6 months.

I wouldn't wait until 1 or 2 days before the expiration of PGWP.

Think your friend may have applied for a WP extension which they didn’t qualify for. They don’t have an employer with an approved LMIA and wanting to employ you. Many do this to try and extend their WP knowing they will be denied often around the 2 month mark.
