Work Permit Processing Times

Hi Guys,
I just wondered if anyone knows how long it's currently taking to obtain a work permit. My wife is a Nurse and we have applied for PR under the AIP stream. Received AOR and completed Biometrics.

While this is processing, we were advised to apply for a work permit so we can arrive earlier and won't have to wait for PR. I have applied for an open work permit and my wife has a job offer with a hospital. It's been 2 months so far since we applied and we have received nothing in connection with the work permit. Strange as we were originally told that medical staff's applications are usually fast-tracked to help combat the shortages.

Is she licensed to work in Canada and the province where you are moving to? Should be fasttracked if you are entering work right away. Most nurses arriving aren’t licensed to work in Canada or the province they are going to.

That what we were thinking. We were originally told 2 weeks. She is licensed and registered. Ready to start. ‍

GSS is never 2 weeks although supposed to be. 1-3 months seems more typical. Wow getting licensed is a big hurdle so it is pretty rare to apply when you’re already licensed.

Yeah I was thinking maybe 3 months. We started the process two years ago and would t apply until she was already licensed and on the register for nurses. Then she started seeking employment and after that we started the application process. Seemed the best and logical way.

Yes logical but rarely happens that way. Most people move then start exploring licensing and realize that it isn’t a simple formality and it is currently a minor nightmare. Hopefully will get easier due to the shortage of nurses.

So pleased we got it done before leaving for Canada as it would have been so much more difficult and would have been unable to work. It’s a long process and very time consuming. Hopefully it will pick up soon with processing times.
