please elaborate. what visa will your wife land on? if it is on visitor she cant work, if as a PR, she can, as long as she has her SIN, but she can start applying before that.

About 15 minutes at a Service Canada office. They no longer issue cards; she'll get a piece of paper with the number.

You'll get your SIN "card" in the mail at a later date, but you can use the piece of paper right away until you do.
