I am an American citizen applying outland from inside Canada.

We are currently living with my wives parents. We were unable to provide any joint utility bills or joint lease/house ownership.

We did provide a joint bank account with a decent amount of money in it.

We also provided a letter explaining why we could not provide these things (we are living with wives parents so its hard to have a joint utility bill and all that stuff)

We also provided notarized letters from parents on both sides of the family saying that our relationship is genuine. Another notarised letter stating with are living with the sponsors parents.

We also provided pictures of both of our facebook profiles showing that our marriage is public and we also included about 10 pics from our wedding and 10 pics from other events.

Do you think my application will be returned because of a lack of supporting documents?

I gotta say...you're one of the worst `worriers' I've seen around here in a long time. ;)

I understand how stressful this can be, believe me, but you're over the top...and you're just starting the process!

Take a break. You've put together what appears to be a pretty strong application. Celebrate that accomplishment!

If your app got returned, it would be because you did not meet the requirement of providing at least one document from at least three of the categories listed on the application. You can find this on the checklist.

The six categories are:
- Joint property ownership/joint names on lease (you did not provide)
- Proof of joint utilities bills (you did not provide)
- Documents showing you at the same address (drivers licenses, insurance policies, etc.) (Did you provide anything like this?)
- Important documents showing you are recognized as each other's spouse (employment and insurance benefits). (Did you provide anything like this?)
- Proof of financial support between each other (You provided joint bank account)
- Proof that your relationship is recognized by your friends and family (You provided Facebook and family letters)

So you would need to have provided something from #3 or #4 above in order for your application to not be returned.

I thought that the notarized letter saying we are living at sponsors parents house would cover the lease/ joint ownership category. I also thought it would cover the utilities part, as it gives proof that we can't provide those things. I thought these would be good enough

Listen to this experienced poster. There is no perfect application and you will make it through this. We had returned application and a request for additional documentation and we succeeded. Best of luck.

Sounds like you're fine, but it's hard to know for sure. The fact that you provided explanations for why you didn't have certain things makes me think you'll be fine. They should understand that even in cases where people are cohabitating there are valid reasons why they wouldn't necessarily be able to provide those things. I suspect the cases where people will run into problems are where they just send what they have without explaining why they do not have the other things.

Thank you. I thought the additional letters should suffice as well. I guess we will see. I really hoped that the letters from her parents would cover the lease/utilities part. We. Ant have these things while living with her parents.

I'm sure they would.

Question: Did your wife submit 2016 notice of assessment? That document would definitely show your wife's status as "married" and could be used as supporting evidence.

She did not have it yet. We submitted 2015 notice of assessment with a letter stating she could supply the 2016 option c when it is available
