Wife passport question

Hello
I am getting married soon and want to sponsor my wife to come live with me.

We will be applying through Kiev, Ukraine office

We want to change her last name to mine when we get married, but that means she has to change her passport. We don't know how long it will take her to change her passport, might take more then a month. Is it ok if with the application I include her old passport with the maiden name and write a note that we applied for a new one?
All the forms will have her new last name, because on the marriage certificate it says that she has my last name now. But I am worried if Immigration will accept her passport under old name. It would save us some time.

Would be really thankful if someone could clear this up.
Also any phone # I can call in Canada to ask this type of question? The one listed on the website has an option to speak to someone ONLY if you already have an application and they ask for 8 digit number. Of course I don't have that so can't talk to anyone.

They most certainly WILL accept the passport with her maiden name, however ENSURE that you complete ALL the forms using the SAME name that is in the passport being submitted ie. her maiden name. Now, we bit the bullet and got a new passport done (including waiting for it) before we applied, we felt it could only help our application. Another forum member also did so, and has posted it cost them almost a year in delays messing around trying to get the paperwork right. Seems to me it's not worth it if even there's a chance that could happen, just apply with maiden name.

See this is where I am confused, because on the marriage certificate which is the official government document it will say Leopold_31 is married to her last name will effectively change to mine. So how can I fill the forms with her maiden name?

I have a friend who applied 3 years ago through Moscow, when they got married she changed her last name. And all applications were filled out with her NEW last name, but the passport he included was under the maiden name. Also she did her medical under maiden name too. He had no problem with his application but that was 3 years ago. I don't know if situation changed.

The form asks for "passport name" not "marriage certificate name". IMM0008 states exactly for Question #1:
"* Family name(s) (exactly as shown on your passport or travel document)", AND also
"* Given name(s) (exactly as shown on your passport or travel document)"

Hmmm you bring up a good point. But that means my wife won't be able to change her passport for the duration of the immigration process, because the visa will be given out in her maiden name.
And won't that raise some questions from the visa officer? On the marriage certificate it will say she has this new last name, but all documentation is in the maiden name.

I am so confused ???

No they won't be confused. In fact there's another form that asks for "other" names used previously ie ,maiden name for example. They'll sort it all out, having a 'married name' is not new to them. In our case I think my wife's passport was the only doc that had her new married name on it. Everything went fine.

I guess its a cultural thing, want to have same last name after marriage.
If we leave her maiden name on the marriage certificate I heard its a pain in the butt to change it later.

Hi
Just stopped by the site. My wife landed in Canada last year. We were married in Ukraine, she is Ukraine national. My advice is to keep things simple and make changes once she is safely here. The slightest detail can cause a huge problem with the archaic and corrupt Ukraine government system. The Ukraine officials in Kyiv were not satisfied with the translated spelling of my name for example, this caused much runaround and delay. Just get through the paperwork and sort out name changes later. Just my 2 cents worth, good luck. ;D

We married in the U.S., and I took my husband's last name. We didn't have time to get a new passport before we moved here, so despite my driver's licence, bank account, etc., being in my married name, CIC did everything under my maiden name. It didn't cause any confusion or problems. After I get done with some travel (it's already booked in my maiden name, since that's what is on my passport), I'll get my passport changed and then request a new PR card in my married name.
