Hi everyone,
I've recently been offered a position in Canada, and they are in the process of getting a work permit for me. Since they are the ones doing the paperwork, I don't know whether or not they have checked the box indicating that I have a wife that would be really angry with me if I left her behind...

So if, in a few weeks when this permit come through, I find out they didn't file the paperwork in a way that makes it easy for me to bring the wife, is there anything I can do to in the limited time we'll have before I need to be up there to start working?

What country are you and your wife from/what citizenship do you have? I'd recommend notifying your employer that you have a wife you want to bring.

If you aren't a permanent resident or citizen of Canada, you can't sponsor your wife to come here and she will be out of status unless she qualifies through some other program, or else is happy staying on visitor status.

I'm a US Citizen, my wife is a permanent resident, but is originally from Russia. She'd eventually like to go to college so we'd like to try and get her a Study Permit when we arrive at the border. I think we'd be okay with a visitor's permit if we can apply for it at the border.

Even if we applied for it today, it wouldn't be processed before I needed to be up there and working.

Has she actually been accepted to an educational institute in Canada? Can she show significant proof of funds, at least $10000 + tuition? If the answer to either question is no, then she won't qualify for a study permit.

Post your future queries in the Foreign Worker section of the forum, as this is not a Family Sponsorship situation.
