I think the received wisdom is that adding the child is unnecessary because the purpose of the form is to identify family members of the principal applicant who may be the subject of an immigration application sometime in the future. Since your baby is a Canadian citizen already and able to come to Canada without a visa or going through CIC's immigration procedure, naming the baby in the form is thought to be unnecessary. There are some interplanetary geniuses on this forum however who think IMM 5406 is crystal clear and you may get some help from that direction! However I would not rely on that. In the absence of advice from a really knowledgable member, my inclination would be to name the baby on the form and add a note that the baby is a Canadian citizen. That can do no harm and the VO can then sort it out!

All the children of the principal applicant need to be listed in Section B of the form, regardless of their nationality. Children that are 18 years of age or older must also fill in their own copy of the form.

This is from the CIC website (guide 3999):

"SECTION B

Write the personal details for your children. It is very important that you list all of your children (even if they are already permanent residents or citizens of Canada). This includes:

married children,
adopted children,
children of your spouse(step-children) or common-law partner,
any of your children who have been adopted by others,
any of your children who are in the custody of an ex-spouse, former common-law partner or other guardian.
You must answer all questions. If any sections do not apply to you, answer “N/A”."

You can find the guide here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/3999Etoc.asp#3999E4

Guys, she's said that her application is already in process. Do you need to send them a new form when you have the baby or just a letter announcing the birth? I would not send a new form unless they specifically ask you for it. You should send them an email informing them of the birth of the child and if you have the birth certificate you should scan it and send them that as well. If they need more information than that, they will ask you.

Avadava is absolutely right. My eyes have been opened. I have been looking at the version of Guide 3900 dated 4/2/13, which was the version current when I made my application. That made no mention of IMM 5406. Avadava quotes the current version which is dated 29/8/13 which now not only mentions the form but also contains the words quoted by Avadava. At least that I think is what has happened. You can never be sure with CIC. Apologies all round.

Not sure which version you were looking at. Perhaps you overlooked this in the version you have. When we submitted the application back in 2012, I do remember the guide and application form at the time specifically asking us to list all children, canadian or otherwise in the PR application as well and this is 2012 version and we had to list our canadian children as well.

Even though we used the inland guide as opposed to outland guide, it doesn't make any sense to omit the canadian children in the outland guide when it does specified the requirement in the 2012 inland guide. I still have a copy of the guide we used and it's version was dated 2012-06-04 edition. It listed the exact same note as Avadava posted.

Well it will unfortunately have to remain a mystery which is unlikely to be solved because I completed my application without any guide to IMM 5406 and eventually got my COPR: landing next week. I assure you it is not in the document which I printed off and filed, which is complete and is headed Guide 3900 and is dated 4/2/13 in the bottom right hand corner.. I have flicked through it many times when criticizing the draftsman on this forum and have done so again today to check it against Avadava's version. Unless I am losing my marbles there is nothing in it about IMM 5406. I promise to stop moaning about the guide now that I have seen the commentary in Avadava's version!
