How long do I have to wait to sponsor my spouse after landing in Canada? Do i have to wait for my PR card or i can start the process in a few days after I land?

Also if my spouse has not travelled to a country for which PCC was obtained can we use the same PCC considering it is almost a year old?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

You can sponsor your spouse right away (if you yourself werent sponsored to come to Canada). Most PCCs dont last more than a year after their issue dates. So, Fresh PCCs are required for all countries your spouse has spent 6 months or more.

Thanks @Screenager for your response. So you are sure that the PR card is not mandatory when u submit the spousal application. I will be landing in jan so i dont have to wait for 60 days+ till i get my pr card to start the process right?

Stamped COPR is proof of status in Canada. So is the PR card. You become a permanent resident of Canada as soon as you land on the PR visa.

Hopefully your partner was declared as a non-accompanying spouse? In which case, you could sponsor them as soon as you land. A PCC is valid for a year, or indefinitely if they have never returned to that country after it was issued (easier for some than others - eg for a European, passport stamps would prove not going back to Australia since it was issued, but it would be difficult to prove never been back to Spain).

If your partner was undeclared on your application, you would never be able to sponsor them, and they would have to immigrate by themselves.

@wan11knu, Hi, need to know something please. I want to apply a single married applicant and my issue is that I want to apply but my wife is not interested in applying as she is doing very well in a her career. Therefore my question is a):can I apply without her docs. If yes, then when the ITA comes does she need to give the medicals and PCC or is it only me as I am the main applicant. 2) If yes she has to give a PCC and medicals will she have to do both PCC and Medicals again after when I apply for spousal for her after 1 year.

Appreciate any advise you can give. DO u have any contact number I can call,
